There is a creek that runs through the upper and lower campgrounds. If you can get a spot near the water it's very nice during the hot of the day.
Cell signal is spotty but if you drive out of the campground to the road you can get a clear signal.
Lots of bear warnings, spotted one at the dumpsters, be bear aware here.

Stunning view of the valley below and mountains behind. Typical campground along this section of the 395 - dry camping with pit toilets. Garbage bins and we heard a bear at night!!! Our old Lab loved the creek and we loved the open sky! Old asphalt - could stand a re-pave, but that's not important to us.

We went up to Onion Valley and did some snow shoeing. This is a take off point in the summer for hiking. Some people were skiing as this was a great snow year.
We paid $11.50/night with our golden pass.
Water available and our site had a large area with a picnic table and fire ring. Toilets clean.
The Eastern Sierra Museum is a worthwhile visit and free right in Independence.
Cell service varied according to where your site was located.

We stopped here on our way home. We camped in the open area temps were around100. There are sites closer to the creek, but many are uneven and the back part is limited to 15ft or less. No water or electric at the sites. It’s nice if you like rustic camping. Pretty view of Owens valley and the creek is nice. Had two bites on the fish... more
