The playground is nearby, but at this time of year, and on Sunday night, no kids seem to be around. Pet friendly, and we have good cell signal with T-Mobile. I have 3 bars of 5G. We haven’t used the public toilet or showers. We have water and 30 amp hookup. 50 is available too.

As with almost all Corps of Engineers campgrounds I've been to (21 of them) you know what you will be getting as far as the attributes of the individual sites. Predictably, sites here are large, offer a level hard-packed surface, have well laid out driveways relative to the easily traversed interior roads, and have water and electric hookups as well as a picnic table and fire pit. There are two dump stations in the park. Most sites have good to excellent separation. The twist here is that the sites are about evenly divided between spectacular waterfront settings to sites which are further back into the woods with little, if any, sight line to the water.
Although this is a very popular campground, it is well off the beaten track making for quiet nights. Check-in was a breeze and there are numerous playgrounds and bath houses throughout this widely spread out campground. A round trip walk through all the loops along the entire campground road netted roughly 3.5 miles. The showers in each bath house offer little to no privacy in the "dressing area."
IMHO, the best sites here for expansive waterfront views, along with excellent privacy and separation, are 76,13, 92 and 59.

We stayed one night on 12/20/2022. The weather was cold and damp but this is a beautiful COE campground and we will definitely stay here again. The man checking us in was very helpful and friendly. We were impressed by everything in this campground.

Its nice to have camping options in the winter and this is a good one. Sites have good locations relative to the lake. Site 75 was right off the lake which I liked but there were some disadvantages. We had stormy weather and the winds off the lake were strong and cold. Most families packed up early and headed inside where it is warmer. Secondly, this particular site had an odd entry. In hindsight I’ve realized that there was a drive through dirt path that went past 3sits including #75. The trick to parking is to continue on the dirt (after the pavement ends) and then there is a better approach angle for backing into the site. I’m glad I had a small trailer that was easy to maneuver versus a large RV. Most sites had more straightforward access.

This was our first time staying in an Army Corp campground and what I heard was right. The spaces are huge and well maintained. This was our first winter camping experience too and only one section of the campground was opened. Most of the spaces in all the sections are on the water and just beautiful. #37 is a double space that we shared with friends. The first two days were cold and windy. We still spent out time outside around the campfire or taking long walks or cooking. The bathouse was close enough and the heating felt great. It was clean and comfortable.
The second two days were warm and sunny. Perfect Spring weather. We spent time walking around and checking out our favorite campsites as we will be back. Almost every site is stellar.

Most of the campsites are lakeview sites. Several of them are within feet of the water. We had a couple of stairs to walk down and maybe 30-40 feet? You could go from the vehicle to the water in about ten seconds or less . It was awesome and we had a sunset view at night.
Most sites are spaced out pretty well. If you dont have someone in the immediately adjacent site you wont really see or hear anyone else the majority of the time. Price was good, and you get 50% off if you have an America the Beautiful parks pass.
This is definitely going to be our go to if we need camping anywhere in this area again. Fantastic little place and shockingly not packed.

WE were blessed with beautiful fall weather, have not needed to run air or heat. The site, 60, is perfect with great view. Careful backin with 28' trailer no problem. This is a "stay here forever" site. But be wary : there are other fantastic sites in the campground that have good views but would be a real challenge to get into. .

The way the sites were oriented, you had a fantastic view of the lake.
One thing to really consider is proximity to Clemson. When we booked the site, it was one of only a handful available however while walking our dogs, we noticed over half of the sites were unoccupied. With the cancellation of college football, this is not surprising. Fall will be a busy time so if quiet is what you are after, I would be mindful of the Clemson home schedule.
The bath houses were very clean, however there is no soap for washing your hands so keep that in mind if you use the facilities. The dump station was also nice and easy to use. Three large dumpsters for taking trash when you empty your tanks.
Not all sites have a separate grill and fire pit which was the only downside. Ours did not, but the fire pit did have a grate you could put over a fire and cook.

Needed a place to stay for a night last weekend to ‘chase’ waterfalls in the upstate. This campground is well maintained, very clean, spaces level and spacious with awesome site amenities (picnic table, fire pit, grill, poured concrete gathering area, water & electric; dump station and trash bins centrally located), well sited (views from each one and staggered). Lost a star because close gate from 10pm - 7am. Not a problem for us, but we do not like this - we roam for the freedom, not to be restricted. Seems to be a shared practice among many campgrounds in this part of SC and other ACOE grounds elsewhere. Only one bathhouse open this time of year and dated, but was clean and is ADA. The Clemson area and upstate SC are beautiful places, enjoy!
