The campsite we stayed in was near the dam, off to the left of the entrance, so the sounds of the river were nice and loud. Whoever had camped before us left some beer bottles and cigarette cases that we picked up and threw away. A great reminder that if you pack it in, you should pack it out. Whoever had camped before us left some beer bottles and cigarette cases that we picked up and threw away. A great reminder that if you pack it in, you should pack it out. Aside from this, it was a good stay. Fair warning that the restroom is not regularly maintained, so you should be prepared to find alternatives to relieving yourself.

The site was clean with easy access. We met some friends outside the campground and had no issues with anything walking off. I would recommend this site. There will be a little road noise. Seems that the flat valley next to the river does carry sound. But it's a scenic and clean campground.

Some have more shade than others. Sites have a table and fire ring. Saw people fishing and playing in the river near the damn. About 11miles from Miles City. Great place for supplies or a night out. Was able to use our generator when we wanted without bothering anyone else. Pit toilet is available.

Beautiful, level, grassy spot right on the river. Picnic table and fire ring. No shade for hot camping days as we experienced. Well maintained area.

Twelve Mile Dam ) is located 13 miles south of Miles City, Montana. The site is well maintained. There are no hookups or potable water (dry/primitive camping). but does offer vault toilets. The campsites are first-come, first-serve. We got there on a Wednesday, early afternoon and had our choice of sites. Saw a few fishermen.

Kids loved chasing grasshoppers and skipping stones. Trash can at the dam was overflowing and pit toilets were pretty gross, but it was a nice free spot to sleep. We had the end loop to ourselves, and only two or three other campsites were occupied.

An excellent little campground with 14 spots, a few are adjacent to others, but mostly they’re spread out more than 100’ apart on the little spit of land. We snagged the last available spot next to the walkway to the dam viewing area. It gave us the best view of the dam, although we did get more walk by’s then other spots and we couldn’t pull our rig closer than 50’ from the firepit. But the setup was fully worth it to have a waterside spot and get a great nights sleep lulled by the best dam noise one could ask for.
