“I've stayed here at least twice a year for the past 10 years and love it”
Centrally located pit toilet, single hole. Toilet paper sometimes available, sometimes not - I bring the good stuff, no running water or electric service, one street light at the latrine, dirt/gravel road one way in and out. The road condition can be a bit rough for trailers or low clearance cars as they don't grade it often. I have never seen anything larger than a teardrop size camper here, almost exclusively tents. Honor system fee at the entrance board is $10 per night. First come, first served, the spaces fill up quickly Friday afternoons on the weekend when the weather is nice. The somewhat undefined sites can accommodate large groups or single tents. Lots of trees for hammock camping. Very tall pines mostly, so not super shaded. I suggest checking for widowmakers as the winds can pick up this close to the mountain and drop a high limb with little warning. Cell service is non-existent for some carriers, I have had some luck with T-Mobile but a weak signal is common. The only negative about this campground might be the occasional group that makes a lot of noise, most folks are cool just like in the real world. The Chinabee Silent Trail runs through the campground - you can hike south up to the ridgetop of Talldega Mountain and make connection with the Pinhoti and Odum Trails. A word of warning - the last 3/4 mile is very strenuous, but when you make 2100' the view is worth the effort. Or try the much easier north direction about 2.5 miles to Cheaha Falls and on from there to Lake Chinabee a few miles further.
Bruce would stay here again
