I think we lucked out and stumbled upon a cancelation. I was searching the area for a midweek reservation of 2 nights, and 2 sequential nights were hard to find anywhere. I booked this only 10 days in advance, and the site was one of the best in this small all-sites-reservable campground.
The site was amazing, and I was hesitant because 2 days were available. We sat at the campfire at night and could watch fish jump in the South Fork Stillaguamish river right across from our campsite. Nice and quiet campground (a fairly small one) but I imagine that depends on your neighbors. We had courteous and quiet neighbors, and the whole campground seemed pretty chill. Our site was overlooking the swimming hole, which is sandy-bottomed and shallow on the campsite side. The far side is deep where the fish like to hang.
Anything on the river is a great campsite, even site 1 (first one on the left) I wouldn't hesitate to book. There is not much traffic, and the loop starts after site 1, so the benefit is that the children bicycling the loop don't come near your campsite if quiet is what you're looking for. It has a really nice view overlooking the river, and might be the most available riverfront sites.
Mountain Loop Highway traffic was audible, but mostly disguised by the river sounds. If you're on one of the sites against the highway, I imagine it could be bothersome, but the highway is not that heavily traveled, thankfully.
We hiked Robe Canyon, which is a nice, easy hike to do with kids/dogs. Canyon was filled with bird noises, and I got to ID some new ones with my Merlin app. Yes, I'm a nerd.
It's all reservable, so probably not a drop-in campground during the peak of summer. Loved the quiet and smallness of it all. Pit toilets were clean. Water was available. Once my son teaches me to fly fish, I'll be back.

Nice campground by a river. Vault toilet that was very clean. Quiet, clean campground with level sites. Our site was open so we were able to use our solar panels. We did not have cell phone service with Consumer Cellular.

Wonderful wooded campground near Granite Falls. There’s so much hiking here! This is a great little campground that has a lot of privacy between sites.
