As you enter Cheyenne there are plenty of signs directing you to Curt Gowdy State Park. Our GPS agreed with the park instructions to take us out of Cheyenne on I-25 then onto Happy Jack Rd, which leads you up the mountain to the State Park. The signage was less plentiful as we turned left and passed under the big Curt Gowdy State Park sign over the road. We followed the road up to the visitors’ center and registered then proceeded as told down to Tumbleweed pull-through site 24, which was water and electric. As we got into the Tumbleweed area, we realized our door would be facing the road and the utilities by pulling in that direction. So we decided to pull in the opposite direction, which we had to go back up and make a tighter right turn to get us back on the road to put us into the pull-through with utilities on the driver’s side. We were then able to pull into site T24 with no issues. This gravel site is at a bit of a downhill angle, but we were able to auto-level. The pad was plenty long enough for our 40’ 5th wheel and F450. The water and electric (50 and 30 AMP) were more toward the back of this pad, but we had no problem reaching to hookups. The water pressure was around 40 psi. We got 1 bar on Verizon, but there was a clear shot either north or south for satellite. In our case, north for Starlink. We had a cement pad with a concrete picnic table plus a nice-sized fire pit off to the side. We were not too far from the reservoir with a nice lake view from the right/door side of the site. We were here in the middle of the week and the park and campground were about 3/4 full, but by Thursday the CG was filling up and the reservoir much busier with boats and jet skis. We enjoyed our stay here to include some pretty good shore fishing for trout.

I wasn't given a map at the visitor center, just shown one on their counter. There is NO sign at the turn for Tumbleweeds and you can't see this loop from the road. The actual turn to the campground goes past a camp store and looks like a driveway, so it took us going to the next campground (Silver Crown) which had a sign, and figuring out where things were. Our site had water and electric and a great view of the reservoir. Signs say no swimming, no dogs in the water. Fishing & boats apparently OK.
The park itself is beautiful - great views everywhere and nice hiking trails for all experience levels. The campsites at Tumbleweeds are very spacious and easy pull-through. Ours was level side-to-side and sloped a good bit downward.

Check in was fine, the visitor center is closed due to Covid and a ranger is in the lobby checking you in. She was very helpful and gave me great info on the hikes in the area. We stayed in the Tumbleweeds campground because it had hook-ups. Our site was next to the lake and very nice. I rode my bike to check out all the campgrounds around the Granite Springs reservoir and I don't really think there was a bad campsite. Although you could smell some of the vault toilet buildings a hundred yards away. Another thing is I don't think it was worth having the water hook-up because the pressure is extremely low. If I had known I would have just chosen and electric only site. The other bad thing is there is no dump facility.
The park itself is very pretty. We hiked to Hidden Falls. Beautiful hike, but the falls were just ok. If you do that hike, make sure you get a map from the ranger. There are many opportunities to make a wrong turn if you don't know where you are going. I rode on some of the bike trails and they are very well-maintained. The sunsets were gorgeous. It's very quiet at night and other than the one camper next to us who blasted his radio every afternoon until 10:00PM, the other campers were quiet too.
The campground was only 25% full, so when it's busy, it might be a different experience.

Impressive entrance and welcome center. Bike/hiking paths, reservoirs pretty area. Clean site and nice concrete pad with a picnic table and fire pit.
The site was not level. No dump station (although there is one listed on website). The extra $25/day for our tow vehicle was way over the top.

We enjoyed our stay our site was on the water with water & electric, nice & private. Great lake for Kayaking when the wind lays down. We had a few good storms here one left us a beautiful rainbow. The park had a trail you can walk, nice easy hike near the visitor center. Volt toilets but a real bathroom with showers at the visitor center. Wyoming ground squirrels everywhere love watching them. Yellow birds, red wing blackbirds and lots of geese. The stars were so beautiful, it was dark there & the sky was vibrant. It was very quiet when we were there the first week of June 2019.
No swimming in the lake was bummed about that it's a water source for a town close by. The geese poop was all over the lake. We drove through the rest of the park to the other side of the lake, saw deer and pronghorn sheep, eagles, rabbits, and white pelicans.
My husband fished from the kayak & did some shore fishing he caught about 25 small trout.

It was nice being on the lake with the views but we took our kids down to the water to skip rocks and ended up leaving pretty quickly with all the goose poop and feathers everywhere.
We were hoping to stay closer to Cheyenne for the annual Cheyenne Frontier Days, but we were happy to have a beautiful site to stay instead of a cramped RV campground closer to town.

Glad we snagged an electric site in the Tumbleweeds loop because it was unseasonably warm and most sites have zero shade. Also zero privacy, but easy access. We were there mid week so it was quiet, but I’m guessing it’s busy on weekends. We would have explored the many hiking trails had it been cooler. Vault toilets were clean. Didn’t use the showers (apparently available at the Visitors center up the hill). If we ever need an overnight when we’re traveling thru this area, we’d stay here again.
Had to pay fee for water/ electric site and WY state park fee which made it costly for a 1 night stay, but still cheaper than a hotel.

The only complaint was the lady at the ticket taker/entrance kiosk. She was SO rude and unhelpful. She was so unpleasant that I complained at the visitors center. (It was a beautiful place by the way!) The manager apologized profusely and it seemed like this was a common occurrence with this staff member.
We explored around the lake and it was very busy with lots of people fishing from the shore line and hiking.

Young female working at gate told us nothing could be done!
Worst experience and treatment we ever had! We’ve been to over 100 campgrounds in 2 years and never run into someone before who could frankly careless about helping resolving the problem!
We left and will never return! Lost our money, but we weren’t staying in a mud pit with a leaking water outlet! Which she also told us couldn’t be fixed even though it was 2 o’clock In the afternoon!
