“Free spot on Trout Lake”
Reviewed Jan 25, 2017
This is a relatively quiet spot in the Ocala National Forest, not too far from the main road. The lake is beautiful, filled with lily pads and sand cranes. The parking itself is not ideal - it's slopey and sandy and incredibly dirty with litter. We filled at least 3 trash bags in an attempt to clean up but the beer cans, fast food packages, and broken bottles seemed to be scattered everywhere.
People definitely know this spot. At least 3-5 trucks drove in and out during the day and we had another truck parked near us during the week. Each night we stayed here we saw people with flashlights walking and/or cars pulled in/out. Kinda creepy.
Service is spotty but my husband, who works out of our rig, managed to have a strong enough connection for a few conference calls during the week.
Overall, it's not amazing, given the trash and nocturnal activity, but the beauty of the lake helps make up for some of those negatives.
Warning: the drive in is narrow. We scraped up our RV pulling through the high brush.
