I have not experienced or heard of any bear activity at Tom's. I tent camp and I wasn't concerned about it. Apparently, the black bears in Utah are not aggressive compared to other bears. Bear spray can give you peace of mind, I understand it can be very effective, however I doubt you would ever encounter one at Tom's. There were a bunch of cows in the area. Although they didn't come into my campsite, I saw other campers trying to prevent them from coming into their camp. They actually played fetch with their dog. As the dog ran toward the ball the cows dispersed.
