This is a lovely, quiet, small campground with access to fishing and hiking, not far from Eagle's Nest.

Camp host amazingly nice and effective. Quality sites tucked in by the road. Great restrooms and water shuckers but no showers or Hook ups of any kind. Need to reserve sites on line. Use Wi-fi at State Park office at campground.

This was a tiny campground full of RVs that we did a quick night of dry camping in on the way from Santa Fe to Taos to try to get a nature experience instead of stopping at an RV park. The sites are close together and the campground is either undertaking some kind of construction project near the creek or there was a fire that required clearing of the area so it was muddy and not as picturesque as we had hoped. But it was quiet and everyone was friendly and it was nice to be among the evergreens and next to the rushing creek. We were grateful we could fit our 25’ Airstream into one of the sites. Had to angle the truck in to fit onto the pad without sticking out onto the drive.

Stayed 5/4/17 – 5/7/17. When we stayed this campground had fewer campers than the other two campgrounds in the area. It was located along a creek, beautiful, quiet, and clean. We were there on opening weekend and it was just the camp host and us.

This is a small campsite in Cimarron Canyon very near Eagles Nest. Some sites are reserved a few sites are walk up. The campsites run along the edge of a creek. Campsites are close to each other but do have some shade in spots. The camp host made this a much better stay than it would have been otherwise.

Eagle’s Nest and Cimarron are quite close to each other, and honestly, having driven past Eagle’s Nest on the way, it’s not even a contest. Eagle’s Nest and Cimarron are quite close to each other, and honestly, having driven past Eagle’s Nest on the way, it’s not even a contest. Eagle was just a big puddle of water with no shade or trees or beauty around it. Since they’re equal in all other respects (internet access, lack of hookups, etc) I see no reason to choose Eagle. JMHO.
We are staying in Tolby which is the first campground inside of Cimarron. We heard from a local that they stock the stream going through here, and that you can have some massive good luck with it. My husband is out trying his hand at it right now. 😀
There are no electrical hookups here; there are water spigots throughout where you can fill a water container and take it back to your RV but there’s no place to directly hook into the system.
With our booster, we have 4G-LTE with full bars through AT&T, and it’s really fast. With Verizon, we have extended 3G and it’s pretty slow. I wouldn’t want to be reliant on our Verizon connection alone up here. With or without the booster, Sprint doesn’t do a dang thing. 😛 No connection at all.
There are flush bathrooms here (no showers, at least in Tolby) that close mid-October but they have vault toilets right here, so there’s still some place to go. There are dumpsters here to dump your trash, so that’s nice.
Since we have the NM Park State Pass, this campground is free for us since there are no hookups. With water spigots throughout, flush toilets, dumpsters, fire rings, nice picnic tables, and a stream running right through it stocked with fish, you really can’t go wrong. The reason for a four star instead of a five star rating is because the sites aren’t easy to back into and there are no pull through sites. Absolutely no big rigs would fit in here; we’re a tight fit with a 25’ travel trailer.
Otherwise, come enjoy!
