Camp only in designated dispersed campsites and in developed campgrounds within Prescott Basin around the city of Prescott. See map for details: https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprd3797787.pdf. Dispersed camping is allowed outside of Prescott Basin.

Stay limit is 14 days in a 30-day period in Prescott National Forest, except Prescott Basin which is limited to 7 days in designated dispersed campsites only.

Campfires allowed in provided fire rings only. During fire restrictions, campfires are not allowed in these designated dispersed camp sites.

Overall Rating

The main road to Thumb Butte is paved, with two lanes and well maintained. Once you turn onto the unpaved section the road becomes one lane with turnouts. The road is passable without high clearance with some washboarding and potholes.

Site four is large enough for a medium sized 5th wheel without too much effort leveling. The site is back in but if site 5 is empty it is a pull through to leave. The site is in dappled shade.

The site had 1 bars of Verizon with 2 megabit download and 0.4 megabit upload.

Overall Rating

Super close to home but still beautiful! Perfect spot for a weekend trip. After trying to find a spot on the rough roads by Lynx Lake and coming up empty, we came here instead and I'm glad we did! Nice road coming in, big open spots for camping. Easily parked the popup and f250, then had two other friends come by for the day with their cars. Beautiful views of the trees. The road had a quite a bit of traffic during the day but the site is far enough off the road that I felt comfortable having my 2 year old play in the dirt without worrying. Lots of hiking trails, my husband was upset he didn't bring his mountain biking, the trails would be perfect to ride, with jumps all over for fun. Only complaint is the amount of $h!t and toilet paper on the little potty trail behind the site. It's embarrassing. There was a pile of bags full of waste under a tree and a jug of urine. Shameful.
