Soledad Canyon RV & Camping Resort - Thousand Trails

Absolutely love this tt, tons of upgrades in section k
They are working on bringing the whole park up to date but that takes time. Love the staff and support he activities they do in the different activity centers. Put put golf, swimming pool,spa, pool tables, ping pong tables, pickleball courts, basketball courts and much more. Is the whole park brand new the answer is no but probably one of the best parks I’ve been to in a while!!

Section K (“Gold”) reopened in January 2024 after a complete renovation. Section K is quite nice with 20/30/50 amp outlets, water and sewer at each of the 123 sites. Most of the sites are spacious and are fairly level.

The other sections (A, B, C, M, N, and Q are in need of renovation, and I heard that the campground will be renovating section N later this year.

An entire section of the campground (K Section) has been closed for approximately 6 years for "renovations". The employees live full-time in all the good sites. Half of the campsites in the other sections are closed because of the park's faulty electrical system. If you manage to find a site with working power then you're bombarded with the smell of raw sewage constantly coming from the park's sewer system. Not to mention all the weeds growing everywhere and the trash blowing around.

We had a reservation for a week long stay. We drove 2 days to get to this location. I called the day before to inquire on their 50amp availability.
The employee advised they do have 50amp availability but it’s all first come first serve.
No problem- looking at the resort map I see half the park is 50amp. So There were atleast 100 50amp sites.

Getting there I’m advised the largest section of 50s is closed for maintenance (she could have advised that the day before)
Then the small section of 50s left, even some of them were closed off.
Leaving only about 15 50s .
On top of that people were staying in their sites past checkout time one even Days after their checkout date! The ranger advised this is normal for people to stay past checkout as they like to keep using the pools. She advised we find someone who has a checkout date for today on their window pass and just wait till they leave but we could be waiting all day.

It was extremely hot , we had no cell service and we’d been driving for 2 days. The last thing I wanted to do was wait someone out who should’ve left hours before.

The park looks run down once you pass the main office. Seems like the majority of the people live there in run down rigs.

Id advise you to skip this TT , unless you are just stopping for a night and only need one of the water and 20amp sites they let the tent campers use.

Hard to find a good site with full hook ups. You drive through and pick a site which is a is it time consuming and a real pain since a large percent of the sites, the hook ups aren’t working. I had to settle for a water and electric site since nothing else was available, and use the dump station. The showers were very nice. The roads are mainly dusty dirt roads and dirt campsites without shade. If you open your windows you will get the RV full of dust. The sites are not level and it’s a pain trying to level the RV. The Campground is run down and neglected. The mountains are beautiful to look at and your are 1 to 2 hour drive away from LA and the coast. The traffic is horrendous however.

Let's be honest here, most of us are not at TT to camp, we are there because we live full time traveling.

While the value (free) is great, the park itself leaves a lot to be desired. This was our least favorite park by far. It was very crowded and hard to find a spot open with sewer to fit us (44 ft and truck). A lot of the sites are closed because the electrical doesn't work. We ran into the same issue but ours was not marked as closed. The sites are the closest together we have seen while traveling. They are buddy sites but you don't get space on the front side either. There is enough space for the picnic table in the middle and that is all.

The worst part is the TRAIN that will sound the horn all day and night. Every campground/rv park seems to have its own train but this seems to take the cake for worst one.

Cell service worked for text but no internet. Starlink is needed for working.

We would not stay here again. Either pay to stay somewhere, boondock, or go to a different TT park elsewhere.

We stayed at Soledad Canyon a few weeks in winter. Day trips to LA were great. If you’re there early spring (March) there are places to go to see wildflowers like Antelope Valley Poppy Preserve. If you’re used to Thousand Trails then you know what to expect. Keep your expectations low, then lower still.

Pros: location close enough for day trips to LA and surrounding areas. Beautiful area. Weekend events for kids. Big rec center with pool, foosball, air hockey, take one/leave one library, etc. Splash pad and pool (only during summer), playground. Plenty of different sections to choose from. Full hook-ups (but see cons below re hookups). Town close by with a nice local coffee shop and library (with good Wi-Fi).

Cons: this is a textbook Thousand Trails campground. Pay for non-medical packages at something like $20 per package. Train is loud and every few hours (metrolink commuter and twice a day/night giant freight train). Half or so of sites are closed with no electricity. You MUST have a surge guard, and check sites before hooking up/parking. You must arrive during daylight hours or park in registration overnight. It would be too difficult finding a site in the dark anyway. Fill your water tanks while here, the water turns off unexpectedly and frequently. It is always windy. Always. Don’t park with your fridge vent unprotected or you might get rain coming into your kitchen during a storm. Lots of amenities are closed and residents say they’ve been closed for years. Like half the bathrooms locked, half the laundry facilities, one pool/hot tub (the hot tub hasn’t been open in at least 3 years). Almost zero cell, we were lucky to use our Starlink as our T-Mobile was SOS only. There was major work being done on a new dump station that included digging up almost an entire football field size grassy area. Why they’re spending money on new dump stations when half their sites have no electricity and half their amenities are closed makes no sense to me.

I would stay here again as needed. It’s how we can full time, with Thousand Trails. But if I’d paid a nightly fee I would have been upset and not return.

The staff was very friendly at this campground and this was a welcome experience after visiting Pio Pico. We were able to get up on top of the hill which had two bars of 5G Verizon. We had been scheduled for four days but left after the first day. A lot of sites had issues with electrical service and there were several without electricity. The main reasons why we didn't stay were the following:

* There was no wifi available in the park.
* The lodges closed by 4pm.
* The hot tub was broken and wasn't scheduled to be fix until late summer.
* The area is not very walkable with several areas having water erosion dammage.

Cons: Allow 2 hours before dark to drive around and find a pedestal that has electricity. Many of them have been taped and marked closed by the park. Other pedestals are open but just do not work.

Possible repeat bridge closure in 2023 to ?? if current temporary Santa Clara river bridge to sections M, N, Q, P is rebuilt, forcing rv's to use the back entrance on Arrastre Canyon road. This entrance was used after the bridge was washed out in the 2017 flood. It took several years to open the temporary bridge. The 90 degree turn from this road to the back entrance is very tight (See google earth).

Pros: Almost always has vacancy. Newly rebuilt section K might be finished sometime in 2023.
