“Beautiful views, plenty of peace and quiet, and cows to keep you company.”

I stayed here the full 14 days because it was so nice and convenient. Beautiful view of the Superstition Mountains, lots of majestic saguaro, and an open range so be prepared for cows. They were all friendly, so no worries. Dead peaceful at night with no noise, neighbors, or light pollution. The proximity to Roosevelt Lake, the dam, Apache trail (absolutely breatakingly, indescribably beautiful) and the Salado cliff dwellings is a huge positive. The only inconvenience I could see is it being a little out of the way of a Walmart or Frys, but to make up for it, the local Ace Hardware is an IGA!!! When was the last time you saw one of those? I was immediately flooded with memories of getting stickers and candy from quarter machines and shopping with my grandma. The locals are super friendly, and the ladies at the IGA make HUGE portions of food for CHEAP. Literally the largest pancakes I have ever seen, bigger than your head. On Thursdays the community center has bingo night, which was pretty fun. Alphonso's Mexican food has some pretty good tacos, I believe Monday or Tuesday is a special for $1 tacos. White people: STOP GETTING BEEF OR CHICKEN TACOS ON FLOUR TORTILLAS WITH CHEESE. Eat a real taco, adobada or al pastor with onion, cilantro, and lime on a corn tortilla. The only negative I can give this spot was that a truck full of local Mexicans decided to shoot near our site while driving down the road. I don't think they were up to trouble, but still, be safe when handling firearms. Also, we had a HUGE mouse problem that was unfortunately only solved with kill traps. I don't think it is anything specific to this area, just bad luck on our end.
I love this place and plan on coming back regularly.

“Great desert spot!”

We found a nice level site just a few hundred yards from this location. Beautiful views across the valley to the mountains, great desert hiking in every direction. Quiet, private. Great night sky viewing, though you can see the glow of the Phoenix metro area beyond the mountains. You can hear the coyotes at night, but they avoided us. The road here is mostly unpaved but easy enough for a Class C to handle. OHV trails everywhere. Our first night here was windier than the forecast for Payson and Tonto Basin (the two closet stations), but second night was calm.
Team Alarika would stay here again
