“Excellent Camping Spots/Views”

Great place to camp. Free as well. Need high clearance/likely 4wd to get from end to end. Rough/bumpy road but well worth it. The top has yellow spot, free camping. Pick your spot. Somewhat shaded but very neat. Quiet and off the beaten path. More shade would be great but awesome drive and camping location.

“Very nice, out of the way sites”

Thomas Mtn Rd site (6S13) makes a big loop from north to south off Hwy 74 and connects Tool Box Springs Yellow Post sites and then back out to Hwy 74. Site 1 & 2 are closest to Hwy 74 and are easy access to most any rig except maybe low clearance 40'ers. Our 25' Winnie class A drove in easy and was reasonably level. Site has a fire ring, picnic table, no water or vault toilets but semi-shaded with a great view of the mountains. It is within sight of the hwy but far enough away to not hear the traffic, except when the occasional really noisy semi would pass. Farther up 6S13 there are numerous well marked camping spots with fire rings, table and pit toilets (clean), no water seen. It's all forestry dirt road access and should not be attemted with a standard car, limited to vehicles with more clearance (truck, SUV etc). These sites are more suitable for tent, van, truck camping due to the rough road, maybe a tent trailer with high clearance. It's border line 4X4 type back country roads. We scouted the area easy enough with our all-wheel-drive light duty small suv. But we would have never been able to get our old tent trailer there without a bigger tow vehicle.
