Texas Springs Campground

There is no usable cellular service on Verizon, AT&T or T-Mobile. You can get text messages and calls, but no data of any significance. Starlink works well. Verizon and T-Mobile was via a roof mounted Pepwave antenna. AT&T via phone.

We arrived on a Monday afternoon and there were plenty of available spots. It was probably 75% full and cleared out more during the week. This is a good NPS campground with a much better vibe than the parking lot of Sunset Campground down the street. As others noted, there is little vegetation and thus little privacy but it's no worse than most commercial RV parks. The view of the valley is excellent depending on the site.

They list a 25 foot trailer length limit online but that's not posted in the campground and it's way too low like it usually is for NPS campgrounds. We maneuvered our rig into a pull through site without any issues fitting both the trailer and truck with room to spare. You could fit a larger trailer in many sites without issues. One or two turns might be tight, but that's about the only reason I can come up with for the 25 foot limit. Your mileage may vary.

The site was gravel and largely level side to side. Potable water spigots are available at various points, and at the dump station on the entry road. Dishwashing stations are available. Propane fill is available at the gas station in Furnace Creek, but they probably charge an outrageous amount for it. Diesel was $8 a gallon when it was $4.22 a gallon an hour away in Nevada. Laundry is available at the ranch. The best option for groceries is in Pahrump, Nevada.

Most high elevation activities in the park were closed due to a winter storm. Many of the low elevation activities were still closed because of the 2022 flooding, but a good chunk had reopened.

Nice desert campground with a higher view of the mountains than Sunset and Furnace Creek. Friendly helpful staff. For AT&T we had full bars on 3G, meaning we could barely load anything.

You have to purchase wifi from the Ranch, which is good wifi, but you won’t really be able to access it from the parking lot; ie no private space for Zoom calls.

The Ranch also has “Passpoint AES” internet, meaning free high speed wifi on your AT&T phone but good luck trying to get it on any other device. Also Passpoint is not Boingo fyi.

[Internet. There was full 3G signal for Verizon but no service for T-Mobile. Verizon only seemed to be usable in the morning hours but extremely limited. Speedtest wouldn’t run.]

Be mindful this is a very popular park in a desert. No, there isn’t shade. Yes, the sites are very close together. But I liked this campground. It had a good deserty atmosphere. Not to mention it was an actual campground not a parking lot.

Do not come expecting you’ll be able to shower in your outdoor shower. Park rangers walked around and had everyone take them down. We have a shower in our van so this wasn’t an issue for us but our neighbors were very disappointed.

Bring a variety of tent stakes! We had an extreme wind advisory for 2 days with gusts up to 55 mph. Tents were literally tumbling around the campground. Store things in the tent to at least weigh it down.

Just a reminder, don’t shine your white flashlights in camper faces. Avoid using white lights all together if possible. Use red lights. The campground is compact and your flashlight is in everyone’s line of sight.

It’s basic and served it’s purpose well. No red flags. 4-stars

4 night stay at Texas Springs, unfortunately over the Presidents Day holiday weekend. We'd been on the road for 3 weeks and landed here on the Thursday before the busy weekend...All first come first serve with plenty of sites to choose from on Thursday. Friday was totally mellow too...Not until Saturday and Sunday did the place get overun with loud, rude crowds... Then Monday most everyone
left...With those 2 busy nights the campfire rings were burning huge and the air quality was choking. You could not
open up any windows for fresh air to sleep until after midnight. You have to bring your own wood here in Death Valley and some people brought wood that had bellowing black, ranky smoke...Very rocky ground for a tent, we were so very glad we had our little travel trailer.

We throughly enjoyed our week-long trip to Death Valley and the village/store "The Oasis" (formally known as Furnace Creek Inn)...

Gravel parking lots pretty much sums up most of the camping in Death Valley. Maybe some will back up to mesquite, but not many. It's keeping the flavor of the valley but it means most camps are the same. The tenting area in Texas Springs does have a bit more shade, but the RV area does not. What makes Texas Spring superior is that no generators are allowed. Therefore it's a quiet camp. It's also a bit removed from the action at Furnace Creek. If you want to be within walking distance of the visitor center, the other camps at furnace creek will suit you better.

Mobile coverage is limited but available in the camp. Signal is strong but throughput is weak. I was getting about 300k bps down and negligible up. It's a congestion issue. At 3am I was able to pull 3-6 Mbps down. This was on Verizon and AT&T.

One tip I can offer is to pay attention to which way you park your RV. You'll want to make sure the RV provides afternoon shade in your outdoor space.

First time to Death Valley and landed here on FCFS grabbing one of the last spots.

Like all the campgrounds they are just big open areas with spots to land in. There was a fire ring and picnic table and the spots were pretty close together. We were in the upper loop, in the lower loop that is tent only, there was some minor shade and a few trees.

We had a crazy sand storm that blew through in the evening and flattened all the tents and folks were sleeping in their cars, we were thankful for the trailer.

Easy access to the Furnace Creek attractions. Some hiking with views up the rocks just outside of the campground. Overall, about as good as it gets for Death Valley. You're not there for the campsites but more for a place to base out of.

First come, First served. Arrived about noon which was perfect for obtaining a spot. We asked a very nice volunteer, Bob, regarding availability, and he directed us to options and there were several. However, by 1700 it was completely full.

I read another review regarding supplies and fuel, and it was right on. If you will need it, bring it with you. Beatty, NV., has diesel and it is reasonable.

This is dry camping. Water is available and there is a dump station as you leave the campground. The price is about right.
