Tensleep Creek Dispersed Camping

Really just enough room for one, maybe two cars, or one pull behind trailer to back into. Flat and roughly level and gravel. I was lucky it wasn’t taken when I showed up. Looks like there was more camping farther in the past but now it is blocked with boulders. Very close to the creek/river, cool from the cool water, very few bugs.

Super lovely and private.
There seems to be more tent camping if you were willing to park and walk in to the area behind the boulders. Also, the road continues up beyond a gate (the gate is CLOSED Nov 16-June 15) and it looked like there may be more spots to camp up there.

I was so overjoyed to see there were TWO! pristine portapotties right near by.

No cell service on Verizon.

How to get to: take WY 485 and drive along the river. The road is paved. There are spots off the side of the road that people seemed to disperse camp at but seemed kinda sketchy to me. Keep going and you’ll pass the Tensleep fish hatchery. Keep going and on the left is the pull in, and beyond it, walk-in tent camping. To the right is more road—I can’t vouch for camping spots up there because the gate was closed when I went!
