This campground was very peaceful and relaxing. We were here when the heat and humidity were oppressive (high 90's) so didn't venture outside much at all. Our site was slightly unlevel side-to-side, surface was gravel and it sloped down from front to back. Backing a 35' fifth wheel into the site was a bit tricky as they have old railroad ties lining the edges. As you are jockeying an RV in and out the wooden ties had to be avoided. Our surge protector indicated the 50 Amp breaker had an open ground, but the 30 Amp breaker was fine. We informed a staff member and a few days later maintenance came and fixed the 50 amp service by replacing the breaker with a new one. Many locals come here with large party boats and the lake seems to be a big draw. This was our first time in Kentucky: we were here visiting friends and spent most of our time out of the campground touring a couple of distilleries and seeing a few other sights of Louisville.

We stayed here to attend the 2019 Kentucky Derby, which it was perfectly located for. Far enough away from the city but an easy short drive to Churchill Downs. So for any camper interested in attending the Kentucky Derby, this is a great spot to stay.
The sites were fairly large and spacious. It did lack some privacy between sites, but that’s really our only (very minor) complaint.
The staff was accommodating, helpful, and pleasant.

We selected this campground because it put us within an hour's drive of Lexington, Louisville, and Bardstown, and it generally worked well for that purpose. Some of the smaller KY roads were pretty harrowing to drive, however, so we tried to stick to the larger numbered roads like 44 and 155. The campground is in good shape; we were pleasantly surprised to find that our gravel site was perfectly level. It appears that most spots have 20/30/50 amp power. Sites have a decent amount of separation, and we particularly liked our site (#10) because while our passenger side faced the entry road it was not busy during our April 2018 visit and the difference in elevation from the site to the road made it feel very private. The bathhouse was a little dated and a little mildewy, and the showers were very low flow and not particularly hot. However, it was serviceable. The campground offers plenty of recreational amenities including a playground and sand volleyball court, and there are many equestrian and hiking trails in the park. The dual dump station is helpful for campers headed in different directions and plenty spacious. Note for checking in: ignore the large "administration and information" building you encounter first, and drive on past IT to the campground. Registration for camping is in the small building at the entrance to the campground.

We've stayed at Taylorsville Lake State Park several times throughout the spring, summer and fall of 2014. The campground is located approximately 20 miles from the Blue Grass Parkway, 15 miles from I-64 (Shelbyville Exit - Follow signs to Taylorsville Lake State Park) and 5 miles to the small town of Taylorsville. You can either reserve your campsites via Reserve America or call their office during normal business hours.
Campsites are spacious and clean with a picnic table and fire ring. There are three camping areas; primitive (tents only), Equestrian (horse trailers only) and the RV section. Big Rig friendly!! Very few 50 amp sites; a few pull throughs and a couple Handicap sites available. Bath houses are clean and roomy. The primitive/equestrian area bath house may show a little dirty as where the sites are located. Sometimes they have a Camp Host, sometimes not. Staff tries to accommodate. Weekends are FULL and noisy.
Ice and Firewood are located for sale at the entrance station during daytime hours. Playgrounds and horse shoe pits located in each area. Family and Dog friendly. You're on your own for WiFi. Recommend having a hotspot or jetpack if you plan on staying longer term. Lots of cool hilly trails for hiking. Lake is about 2 miles down the road for fishing and ramp for boating. Close to the Bourbon Trail and about 40 minutes to Louisville. Groceries, post office, hardware, automotive store, fast food and pizza, fuel and beer only 7 miles to town in Taylorsville. We gave this campground a 4 out of 5 because there is no sewer and lack of regularly scheduled Camp Host. We will camp here again!

A nice small campground in a Kentucky State Park (44 sites.) The sites are all a good size with good separation from your neighbor. Sites are level (left to right.) Back in sites are easy to get into. Electric and water worked fine. Double dump station was well set up to allow two RV's to dump at the same time which is a time saver after a long holiday weekend.
There are a lot of horse trails in this state park so bring your horse! Taylorsville Lake is part of the park and there is an access from which to launch your watercraft.
This campground is centrally located in the Louisville, Lexington & Bardstown area and offers a good base of operations for touring both the Kentucky horse country and bourbon distilleries.
The only ding, and it's a biggie for us, is no internet (Verizon.) Ziltch, nada, nothing. A rarity in this day and age. Our camping buddies using AT&T had slightly better luck.
