As described in other review, very clean though I didn’t go into the latrines. Surprisingly no trash, no beer cans or bottles it was a decent place to overnight.

Coming south I first tried Sportsmans, but highway construction blocked me, so pulled into Tamarack. Paving only remaining sparsely if at all. Only 1 vault toilet in location. No pay station. Road is washboard but exists. All campsites are in shambles (not maintained at all) but several useable and mostly level. Most sites accessible by larger rigs are within 500 feet of highway. Works great for overnighting. I was able to make a U turn with my toad before vault toilet and found a reasonably level area that was about 2" off level. If you hate highway noise pass this by, but did not bother me at about 500 feet away, Could not get down near the lake due to road conditions, There was an hourly passing of cars going to the vault toilet up to 11pm. Pleasant place. Many flies. Free

In Van, vault toilet not maintained but functional, mostly level, some traffic from pit stops and photo ops, not more that 3 overnighters, road noise tolerable, trucks using engine breaks, soft sand areas just off roads so check carefully.

A few other places would have worked, but very large rigs could have a tough time of busy (never more than 3 rigs while we were there). All the sites get some highway noise. No bugs or smells at this time of year and the lake is beautiful in the rare calm day. There is a bathroom that seemed clean for any tent/car campers. The truck stop in town has a free dump site and water if you buy $10 of gas or propane (price of both was a bit high, but not bad).
Cleaner than many free sites. VZ and T-Mobile connections were both pretty good.

The road to the left past the Vault toilet is an old campground with what is left of a paved road down to the lake also. lots of flat spots to boondock.
The highway is close enough where you hear the traffic go by. however at night it is not noticeable.

I was able to find a decent, level spot halfway down to the water and it was quiet. There is a vault toilet I didn't use because of COVID-19.
I got 2 bars Verizon LTE unboosted, 4 bars boosted, but there was no speed around 4 down and .1 up. ATT was slightly faster, but still really laggy (and I don't know how many bars since it's not a phone and I didn't log in). I'm not being throttled, so I think it's just not great signal, at least where I was.

Just south of Tamarack Beach. Right on Walter Lake. Just beautiful. Clean. Toilets. Water. Picnic tables with covers. Lovely. Worth the stop. T mobile. Next to Rt. 95. Lots of trucks, but the noise slows down at night. Not bothered by it.

I had the opposite experience of the other reviewer. I would absolutely stay here again. Lots of open space. I saw no trash. Just nice desert scape, lake and Mountain View’s, cute little lizards running around. There is a vault toilet I did not use. A few people off Hwy 95 stopped to use it. I did not venture down to the shores, only disconcerting thing was the sign saying the south shore is off limits due to unexploded munitions, eek! But I assume those areas are marked? Some highway noise but that can be avoided if you stayed closer to the beach. Good cell coverage. I stayed here in a Thursday night in late June 2019.

I drove down to this area today to check it out and found it to be very nasty and smelled like dead fish. It is littered with trash, and beer cans. I would be very hard pressed to spend the night here.
