Unlike my experience in Corpus Christi, I sprung for the new, paved, full hook-up area here, and it was totally worth it. Besides it being perfect SoCal weather (low 40s, high 60s) with brilliant sunshine, this loop is lovely. In the past, someone complained about the ants. This time, it was snails, LOTS of snails, mainly at night, some quite large. And lots of bunnies also at night. The pads are level with modern hookups, and a nice cinder area for the picnic table and fire ring. The sites are big and nicely spaced with a lot of ground cover and shrubbery between them. There is an extensive trail system for hiking, biking, and horses. The south camping loop is partially equestrian and longer-term tenants it appears. Considering the campground seemed full during my stay it was very quiet. Yes, there is a flight path overhead but the jets are barely noticeable and are great for plane spotting. Getting here in the dark at rush hour was a bit hectic, but there is only one way in and one way out, with the final stretch being on some narrower, local neighborhood roads. But there were lots of big rigs so it can't be that difficult. For the price, I'd say this is a pretty good deal.

This park strikes a balance of being near enough to San Diego for day trips to the beach, downtown, etc (25-35 minutes avoiding rush hour) while offering a more natural camping environment. There are 2 camping areas, and my review will reflect our stay in the north loop, which we selected based on other reviews (sites are FHU and on level concrete pads). The south loop offers mostly W/E sites with more mature tree growth, but the sites are on dirt/gravel (which isn’t pleasant after any small amount of rain) and are all over the map in terms of size and shape (i.e. less big rig friendly). FHU sites are $33 a day plus $1 per pet per day (dumb but so be it), and a $5 fee when booked online. In an attempt to keep people from living in the park indefinitely, there is a 21 out of 30 day stay limit, and at check-in, they required copies of our vehicle registration for both our truck and RV.
The sites themselves are nice with reasonable spacing, offering some privacy along with plenty of room for our RV, truck, and garage door. Our utilities worked fairly well, but our water pressure was frequently low, and we lost power twice (once for about 45 minutes). There are miles of surrounding trails and plenty of places to walk our dog, but the trails are dirt and degrade to mush with even a little rain.
This location worked well for us, and we traveled into San Diego frequently and Ubered downtown once (about $25). For every day amenities, the surrounding towns of Bonita and Chula Vista offer plenty of shopping and eating options within 2-6 miles.
The park is situated atop a hill offering nice views, and while it was pretty quiet, it is in the path of SD airport. The planes were still pretty high and noise didn't bother us (stops between 11pm and 6am), but they are pretty constant.
The park offers bathrooms, which we didn’t use, but during our stay, 3 of the 6 were out of order at the building nearest our site. Our Verizon signal worked perfectly without any need for the booster.
We really liked this park and appreciated being nearby to SD while being able to camp and walk in a less hectic area with pretty scenery, and we would definitely stay here again.

This is a well-maintained and pleasant campground near San Diego. We stayed in the new section with the full hookup sites. There was plenty of space and good privacy because of the high growth vegetation around the site. The site was very level even though it was located on a steep hill. The restrooms and showers were clean and pleasant. It's about a 30-40 minute drive to downtown San Diego or a 20 minute drive to the commuter rail Orange Line stop. The staff were friendly and helpful. There is a big children's playground area in the park and some trails.
On the downside: there are ants, and they did get into our coach on the final night. They don't seem to bite, but were all over our table and counters. I washed the surfaces with white vinegar and that seemed to minimize their presence. The other issue we had was low water pressure at the showers which are coin operated. You do get a fair amount of traffic noise here, and the campground is right on the flight path for the airport so airliners are flying overhead pretty regularly in the late afternoon and evening.
All in all, for the price a nice campground with good facilities and location.

Nice park, good price for the area, but a difficult stay with pets because there is no place for them to potty near our site without getting into significant stickers. It was quite a chore to get the stickers out of their coats and paws. And at night the earwigs and beetles come out in force. I’ve never seen so many earwigs! In the photos the area between sites seems to be manicured but in reality they have allowed those spaces to grow naturally and there are wildflowers (tall and fibrous weeds) and bushes filling the entire space except the picnic area next to the concrete pad. The premium sites have fewer weeds between sites and it would be worth the extra $.

Access to the park is a little slow through small residential streets. Check in was fast and easy. We stayed in a premium site, # 64, a huge site and Pull Through in the upper campground. All sites in this area are large , The weather was wet in the previous week which caused some water laying for several days. We spent a week allowing lots of time to explore the entire area. Access to downtown at 9:30 am was 20 minutes. Returning at rush hour, is an hour. Lots of trails on site to explore. A short walk to the summit brings a clear view of the ocean and Coronado Beach. Nice! The older lower campground is not near as nice and looks like a few are living there. So your best bet is the upper sites. Didn't use the facilities, but they looked good. All in all, great value, location was great, and from what I could see in the general area, this place is your best bet.

Upon arriving it seemed like a great place. That's until the invasion of the ants started. They are pretty bad here, just be aware. Some people seemed to be living here and working on their cars. We stayed in the older loop, and I've heard the newer loop is better. The site was semi-private.

Solid AT&T connection the whole visit.
