This is one of the best sites around. Sites are nicely spaced out, great views and great staff. Showers and bathrooms are clean and rules kept. Love it and will always go back

The sites are fairly close together but they've done a good job with screening vegetation and using the elevation change to separate sites. Many of the sites on the edges have wonderful views out into the valley. The pads are concrete. You may want to exercise some caution entering and exiting the pad as some of the approach aprons have substantial grade to them. Our pad was level.
There are a few trails in the area, including one that will take you down the summit and link up with the city's trail network. The area around the lake is closed except on the weekend.
Do not arrive before check-in time. They will turn you around and make you leave. There are not really and great staging areas nearby, so I would plan my arrival to take that into account.

For our kids, we actually prefer the older side for access to a huge grassy area to play in, plus the proximity to the splash pad can’t be beat. Sites are dirt, but we’ve actually found there to be less ants than on the FHU side. Plus, the price is half what it costs to be on the newer side. Don’t let the negative reviews dissuade you from staying on the older side- this is a lovely park and perfect for families. Shady and with lovely views in any site.

The reason why I give it such a high rating is availability, it's damn near impossible to get a site especially last minute near San Diego, but I almost always manage to snag a spot here. It's about 30 min from Coronado, a little longer to downtown. Dump station on site. It's a great option if you don't want spend a dumb amount to be in San Diego proper. Cell signal usable for work with no issues.

In general, a pretty classy place, kept clean and orderly. We had a pull through space for the first five nights then moved to the water and electric spaces the last night. We actually liked the second site more as it was near a large grassy area for our kids to play. This site is on the approach path for San Diego airport so there's lots of airplanes overhead (we loved that but not everyone would).

The first day we were fine the next day oh boy…we tried all the tricks, everything touching the ground we surrounded with Ajax, we put our stabilizers and hitch post In bowls of water, but they got in anyway. Now our trailer is infested with them, we are spaying them with windex to kill them, but they keep on coming. Woke up this AM with them crawling all over me, yuk! Because of this I won’t stay here again, at least not at this time of year. Maybe better in the fall?

Great place to camp if you want to explore San Diego. The beach is only ten miles away.
The campground is divided up into two sides: South loop being lengthy dirt pads, doubled up (no privacy), with horses pens, picnic tables, and fire pits. Each site has water and electric hook ups. There’s one bathroom with 2 of the 3 pay showers working and 1 of the 2 toilets working. They don’t seem to be in a hurry to do repairs.
The North loop is much nicer with lengthy paved pads, water, electric, and sewer. You’re not doubled up and actually have some space between sites but still little privacy. There’s actually two bathroom buildings on the North loop with 6 individual (private) bathrooms including 4 handicapped bathrooms of which 2 were closed for repairs. They didn’t seem to be in a hurry to do the repairs and I wonder if they were ADA compliant with 2 shut down. The bathrooms were pretty nice but the showers weren’t mad for taller people and the showered heads were too close to the valve causing them to be against you back when under the shower (Poorly done with no concern for actual use or people over 5’ 10”).
There are nice views of town and the reservoir from some campsites. Lots of trails for hiking, biking, or horseback riding, in the area. Close to shopping. Cell service for Verizon.
Teach your children and keep your pets near because there are snakes in the area. I saw 2, including a rattler.
The park service seems to spray after each guest but they still have an ant problem. Luckily they are the tiny black variety which don’t seem to do much damage as long as you seal you four. Then again, we will see how long it takes me to get rid of then after I leave.
In conclusion I would say this is a very nice place to camp, especially the newer nicer North loop. Would visit again.

Road noise is pretty substantial but you're in the middle of the city so. Would have stayed longer but the stay-at-home order closed it (understandably). Great campground
