Overview of Sweetwater Lake Campground

Bear activity has been increasing. For this reason a "food storage order" is in effect at all developed campgrounds on the Eagle/Holy Cross Ranger District, and the Piney Guard Station, Tigiwon Lodge, Mount of the Holy Cross Overlook, Homestake Road FSR 703, and Nolan Creek Road. This order requires all food and refuse to be stored in hard-sided vehicles, approved bear-resistant containers, or suspended at least 10 feet clear of the ground at all points and four feet horizontally from any supporting tree or pole.

“Beautiful and quiet”

Hidden gem! But only smallish spots for car or van campers. Absolutely no cell service for miles, but some deep peace and quiet in return. It’s bear country, and there are bear boxes in each campsite, as well as picnic benches and fire rings. There’s a toilet too but in October 2021 it was closed for the season. There is a trail that is used by horses that goes to a cave with some original petroglyphs. Sadly these are badly damaged by graffiti!!

1/2 miles on dirt road; pretty tight for 26 ft motorhome; very secluded; mostly for hunters
