“Peaceful stay in the woods after hunting season”

This campground was donated by Kenneth W. Pixley and is a free campground, catering to hunters (Sportsmen's Park) and does not require any kind of pass. We arrived at the very end of hunting season, and found only one RV and tent there. After our first night, the others left and we were alone for a couple of nights, then joined by one more RV on the last night. It was very peaceful there.

The campground is basically a clearing in the middle of lots of trees, bordered by Sweat Creek, a small creek on one side. It has pit toilets, fire rings and a covered picnic area with a large fire ring inside and log benches. There are wood beams set up for hanging the animals throughout, I don't know what these are called as we are not hunters. There are no trash cans so you have to carry your garbage out.

The campground was pretty clean, but there was garbage in many of the fire pits, we picked up a bags worth, including burnt cans (!). It was extremely dusty as it had been pretty dry recently.

It is a nice place to walk doggies, although we heard from the others that they had seen a bear in the campground early that morning.

The location is pretty remote, which we enjoyed but I imagine it gets pretty full during the various hunting seasons.

Driving our big motorhome out was a bit tough, as there is a tight turn to a narrow bridge, and we had to make several maneuvers.
