Susquehanna State Park is what I’d call a step back in time… We stayed on Acorn 41…on check in, a little before 5pm, no one was in the check-in station with a note, We’re Closed and to check on the reservation board, that had nothing on it except general info, that said, a ranger brought us our hang tag and maps later that evening… The road from the Park Office over to the campground extremely narrow and windy… as a state park, there is only electric (30amp) at some sites with water spigots scattered around the loop. There is lots of vegetation between the sites (including poison ivy)… each site has a fire ring, picnic table and lamp post… and a central bath house, that was modern and clean. There are numerous short trails through out the campground. The campground is located within a short distance from I-95 but you could not hear any traffic but you could hear the train horns.
My opinion: for an overnight stay for anyone traveling, this would be great… for a get-away for a few days, darn good if you don’t need to be entertained and just want to relax… there is a small playground and kids were riding bikes… there are a few trails but I didn’t check them out… being only about 1 ½ hours from our house, we’ll probably be back, with dvds and a player as Verizon had only sporadic service and ATT only 1 bar ☹ and for those over 62 and MD residents, don’t forget the ½ price on Sunday thru Thursday night rates 😊

Stayed two nights in April. All the trailer sites are well separated and private even before the trees leafed out. Some sites may have leveling issues, but ours was OK with the usual measures. The Acorn loop is a nice, typical state park loop. Didn't visit the other area. Hook up was electric only, which is typical for the MD parks we've stayed in. The bath house was clean overall and well kept up in general. We didn't have water on board yet due to temperatures. We strolled the loop and most all of the sites were nice. No noise issues despite being mostly full - unless you count the many song birds that just wouldn't stop singing : ). The camp host was actively tending to things and had a friendly wave. For tenters, as mentioned elsewhere, there were plenty of nice sites, but a few right along the road were really not usable in my opinion.
The park itself is nice. We were there to hike and see the Virginia Bluebells blooming near the river - there is an amazing large area of them - recommend but have to be there around mid April. Stopped by a historic gristmill and house. Roads were a little ragged in places but nothing too bad. A very large rig might feel a little tight driving in, but there were a couple of large ones in the park.
Equipment: 14 ft. Trailer
Verizon coverage varied from no service, to barely 1 LTE bar. Really not much so don't count on it, but then, that's not why we were there : )

Overall this is a very nice state park with good trails. The camp host and rangers are friendly and the campground is clean and well kept. The primary concern we had was the quality of the sites. Many sites, including ours are not level at all, to the point that it is hard to get level. Many tent sites are nice but some are merely strips of grass or gravel directly on the road. The bathhouses are clean and relatively new. The playground and trails were well maintained and the location is great. Overall this is a great spot for a quick trip, the location is convenient and easy to access from 95.

Site 42 is the most off-level site we’ve ever seen, and as full-timers, weve seen a lot. Despite maximizing our ramps, etc. We approached but were unable to achieve level. A first for us. Many sites, especially ours, are overgrown and un-trimmed. As a result, tree branches and brush intrude badly at the entrance to the site, making it very difficult to get in without scratching or otherwise damaging the trailer. For us, this was literally a port in a storm, so we also noted that it is muddy and unpleasant here in rainy conditions.
Rest rooms and showers are in good shape and clean. Showers are free for campers.
Verizon signal exists but is weak, mostly 1 bar of 3g or 1x. With booster we got up to 2-3 bars LTE, but it was slow.
Lastly, the GPS route here is not to be trusted, so carefully review your map and call the campground if necessary to help you choose the best route. Avoid Cooley Mill Road, which has sharp turns on a narrow country lane.

We stayed in the Acorn Loop, site #38. Site was very shaded, and probably the most secluded feel of anywhere we’ve camped. Camping pad was nice and level, although the driveway was slightly sloped. One of our bunk ends extended beyond the pad into the woods, which was just fine by me. Nice amount of space in between sites. Short walk to bath house, through the woods behind us. There were also several, very private, “walk-up” type sites for tents.
Bath house was immaculate; one of the cleanest I have ever seen in a campground. Must have been recently renovated. Deer Creek day-use area was nice; had a big playground and a few pavilions. Picnic area was an open field with very little shade, and the amount of goose poop was unreal; like walking through a minefield. For that reason alone, I don’t think I would host any events there. There is a little fishing pond there, which my husband and daughter enjoyed. We hiked back to the campground from here, which was a nice easy-to-moderate trail. The beginning was pretty rough for me, since I was wearing my infant son while navigating an uphill trail, but it quickly evened out. There are also plenty of areas to stop along the road in the campground, with access to the creek for wading. The water felt great, but the bottom was rather pebbly. There is a historic area in the park, with a working grist mill, mansion and other little buildings to view. Not really my thing, but was pretty neat. The views of the river are really nice from here.
Overall, I really loved this park. The campground was definitely my favorite of everywhere we’ve camped so far. Look forward to returning and spending more time in the creek!
