The road in is well maintained dirt/gravel. The sites have a small gravel pad, but are mostly sand. The fire pits are amazing! They do have functioning WiFi which is nice because there is no service. The electric peds are shared between sites and are only 30 amp. Water is somewhat awkwardly placed. Overall, it’s quirky and kinda cool. But it could use some real cleaning up and sprucing up. There is nothing anywhere nearby, so bring all your supplies with you. We had a challenge navigating around the campground loop with our 40 foot fifth wheel. I wouldn’t want to try it with a bigger one or a large class A motor home.

This lady is mother or mother-in-law of owner and spends all day riding around in her little cart playing boss.
She stopped at our site and tried to be nice to us, but she’d started off on the wrong foot with me and I saw bits of it used on other members of our group of 5 campers all 4 nites we were there.
I heard their black dump tank is full and doesn’t have much room. Supposedly they are working to fix this.
Only tents get the excellent sites on the water.
The sites are very close together and are dirt or sand, some gravel.
There’s only 3 bathrooms in the whole campground and if you are taking a shower, it locks anyone else out to use the toilet.
This place needs work in all aspects!

Beautiful location on Lake Superior! A rustic campground with a lot of Character. The beach is copper colored rocks with purr and clear lake water. Very cool when the fog rolls in at sunset.

It is about a 25 min drive to town (Calumet, Hancock or Houghton), so it is a little remote. But it is a good location for sight-seeing on the Keewenaw Peninsula. Getting to Copper Harbor from here is a lovely drive.
We had booked the site a second time but had to cancel. The process to cancel was easy. Just wrote them and email and they sent back a confirmation of cancellation promptly.

The sites are pretty small but there a couple of larger sites. Some sites are suitable for tenting or popup campers only. They have a few cabins available, also. We had 1-2 bars of Verizon phone and our Verizon JetPack. We had 0 bars on our AT&T phone. They boasted wifi but we could never log on even thought the campground was about half full. They had a small laundrymat (3W/2D) and 3-4 restrooms with showers spread through the facility. They advertised a reverse osmosis water filtration system and the water tasted great. They had a central dump and fill station and most sites had 30A electric and water. There is wonderful rocky beach along the campground and we spent a lot of time admiring the view and the waves.

We stayed at Sunset Bay for four nights at the end of August of 2018.
The camp is rustic and peaceful. We were fortunate enough to get a site facing the lake and close enough to hear the waves at night. It was absolutely wonderful.
Some of the sites are pretty tight, others are spacious.
There is a small but clean bathhouse with good showers. The laundry facilities are adequate to the size of the campground. They are not coin operated, you pay by dropping the requested price into a payment box. They rely on people being honest, so if you go, please be honest. Ice and firewood are available at the camp office.
Our site included water, electric, a sturdy picnic table and a very nice fire ring surrounded by large stones.
The wifi was only okay. It was stronger the closer you got to the office.

My husband and I stayed here at the end of the season 2017. The camp hosts were very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable about the area. We loved being right on the Lake, and the unlimited hot water in the bath house was great too. We look forward to coming back in the spring. only drawback is no cell coverage with ATT or Verizion.
