We’d hoped to swim in the lake on a blazing September afternoon, but aside from little easy access due to Lilly pads, there was some type of oily substance all through it and otherwise it was pitch black in color…so we avoided it all together. Pretty little thing though, but even it had soda cans stuck into snags sticking out of the water.
The area you camp in, if you don’t want to walk into one of a few clearings that would be tent only, is a paved lot with six or seven parking spots to choose from. Should day users come, they’ll be sharing the lot with you.
The road in goes from winding farm roads to dirt, to two tracks and smaller and thinner with more foliage overhead the closer you get, but nothing our van and probably smaller RVs couldn’t squeeze into easily.
The water and forest would be spectacular if there wasn’t so much trash. We picked up a bag within 10 minutes and a 15’ radius of the spot we chose…and if I was up for fishing toilet paper out of thorn bushes (jagger bushes ‘round these parts), I could have filled a yard debris bag.

This site is secluded and beautiful. Several pad sites available. The lake is a stone’s throw away. Mornings and evenings are very scenic. Cell service is spotty but present.

We stayed in mid May. Easy to get to in a two wheel drive sedan. Not a lot of mosquitoes for being near water but non stop ticks. We set up late Wednesday and had the place to ourselves Thursday. Another group showed up later on Friday and stayed in their van so there was no privacy but they were respectful. Multiple groups of locals came Friday night and Saturday to fish and they were loud and left garbage. Lots of noise from animals at night but in a nice way. We would stay during the week again but avoid the weekend. There are many other locations to camp in the area as well, but I believe they are going to be closed for reassessment after overuse and destruction. Also, watch out for poison ivy when hiking!
