Early Spring time is nice, it's cool, and green. And very quiet off season/mid week. The creek was flowing and our Lab loved taking multiple dips. No dogs on any trails.
Access is a bit hairy and going up that Adobe Canyon Road to the Park is a short, narrow, and winding bit of a drive pulling a small trailer. The gravel campsite parking pads seem short. Not for big rigs.
The fire rings are those really tall ones, not good for enjoying sitting around...There are showers here, 25 cents a minute. Make sure and get a site in the sunny area if here in the cooler months as it gets much colder (39-40°) at nights up here at higher elevation. Zero cell service or wifi in the campground. Limited wifi at the tiny visitor center. Ok for a couple of nights.

Really beautiful park. Nice bathhouse, very clean. (uses quarters, has hot water) Rangers were friendly. Many dear, turkey and various kinds of birds around. Was concerned about traversing the tiny one lane bridge into the campground but it was fine. Booked solid on the weekend. Wifi from the visitor's center almost reached my site!

Beautiful, fabulous hiking and creeks around campsites. Great little camp store/office and hosts. Showers 25c/min. Half empty mid week. Wish we could have stayed longer. No cell service ATT, campground hotspot slow but appreciated!

We had the perfect spot right by the river. Very relaxing, not crowded at all. Perfect weekend away to completely unplug. No cell service.

Sugarloaf Ridge is amazing. Hiking is plentiful, from short easy hikes to killer mountain ones. A pleasant little creek runs through the campground much of the year, the park is exceedingly well-kept compared to many state parks in CA. Mid-week it was really quiet and we loved our stay. No wifi or cell reception, period, except at the top of Bald Mt.
Access is up a windy, steep road, but it is paved and our truck and 24' trailer had no problem. One of the only public observatories in the western US is onsite and they do star parties many weekends. There is a scale model planet walk too, where you can walk from the 'sun' all the way out to Pluto. An amazing after dinner treat is to walk to the end of the campground (between sites 24 and 25) and take the trail about 5 minutes along, where you will find a bench with the most amazing view. You'll think you are in the Swiss Alps or some other exotic place.
Note it is an alcohol free campground, but as long as you are discreet and well-behaved, you'll be fine. The folks running the campground want it to remain a family place, not a party place.
We will go back again and again.
