It's easy to find just off the highway. Paved roads throughout the campground. Fairly level gravel pull-thru sites. About 8 minutes from town, which has plenty for supplies... Tractor Supply, Walmart, Loves for water, and Ferral gas for propane refills.
Important off-season (October - April) notes:
1) Water is shut off, fill before arrival. (It mentions this on their website. However, it also says water will remain on at the comfort station for campers, but this is false.)
2) Comfort station is closed. However, there are port - o - potties and vent toilets around the campground.
3) Arrive before 5 pm, gates close promptly at 5pm, and do not re-open until 7 am. (We were unaware of this and arrived at 6 pm having to park in the after-hours parking lot next to the hwy even though we had paid for a site, no refunds)
Overall, it was a great experience. There is a trail to hike that overlooks a gorge. The Montezuma Hot Springs was our favorite part. It's only about 14 minutes away.

Stayed 2 nights. Parked right on lake shore with our Winnebego Travato in primitive area. Was plenty level and had beautiful view across lake. Spectacular sunsets and great to wake up to this view. Super quite away from traffic noise. Very few campers in late October. Only 2 other people on beach si lots of privacy.

I chose to take a break from my travel day here. I registered and paid online, and checked in after the office closed. I found my site past all the other loops, on a gravel hillside with two other campers and the camp host. I’m glad I have a bigger leveling ramp because I needed it. Water and electric worked great, and I liked the little picnic table shelter at each site. Caution: there are a lot of speed bumps in this park.
I considered boondocking on the lake but couldn’t find anything online about generators. I did see a sign after I arrived that said generators are allowed in the boondocking area until 10pm.
Overall, not a bad campground at all, especially for $18 a night.

It was very windy so we couldn’t do a fire but we did see a few stacked rock fire rings. We walked up to the playground and our 3 year old loved it! There was a bathroom on our way up to the playground but it was closed. The porta-potties were not very clean but the pit toilets by the playground were not too bad. There were a few geese that came by our door in the morning while we were eating breakfast. One of the big male geese charged at my daughter so we just kept our distance from them.

For $14 a night with water and electric you can much better!! Beautiful view of Storrie Lake. Each site has a picnic shelter. Pull through sites with plenty of room for parking. Has a nice playground for the kids! Las Vegas New Mexico is a few miles down the road. Has everything you need! A lot of history! Would definitely stay again!

I made reservations online for the “water only” site at $10/night. After fees, it averaged $14/night. $14/night is the price for water and electricity, so image that’s then higher too online. The way to go is the “open camping” (boondocking) way. Just come in, pay like $8 at the front gate, then park anywhere by the lake (these are the closest spots!).
With that, there is no Ramada and table plus a fire pit. I can be ok with that. There is potable water at the dump station.
The views are great.

Driving north bound from Arizona and the winds were picking up so we needed to pull over. You have to make a reservation if you need water and electricity, other than that. You can pull in a get a first come first served site boondocking only, the bathrooms were clean and the water pressure good. Very dark a quite a good night rest.

“ Park entrance gate closes at 5PM!”
noted 3/5/2023
Beware the entrance gate to the park closes at 5pm during off season. Only place were this is shown is upon exiting the park. You can not get a site after 5 and if you reserve one online, you can not get in the park. Check gate closure hours during peak season.
If you go to town after 5, you will have to park in after hours parking and walk in. As you turn to the right after entering there are several electric sights in B section that are FC/FS.
