Stillwater Campground

We drove in and out of nearly every campground along this stretch of river and chose this one bc it was the least crowded. On a Thursday night, this site had only one other camper who was at the far opposite end so we choose to stay here.

Our spot was spacious and right on the water, but also just under the main road. Not a big deal since there’s hardly any traffic here.

My guess is this spot is less coveted by the fly fishing crowd? The water was indeed very still here and we were a little nervous about letting our dogs swim a lot in case of blue/green algae, which can be toxic.

So...no running water sound and lots of grasses in a muddy bottom area of the river. Still gorgeous! Still plenty of birds, and enough cell signal for a booster to work.

Too many people treat the fire pits like trash cans, that was the only real bummer.

The sites here are OK, but there are better sites to be found at other campgrounds in the canyon. I prefer the riverside sites with some rapids for soothing river noise at night.

This campground was a bit messy when we arrived, with some trash laying around and broken cinder blocks around our site. While these things are likely due to the wrong people having camped before us, the grounds keepers could help clean it up.
