It is fenced off all around and there are no trails, or anything to do within walking/biking distance. Too bad considering the badlands are within sight. Brooks is 45 minute drive or so and Dinosaur PP isn’t too far either.
Excellent place if you need to park for a night

About a 40 minutes detour from Highway 1, this free camping was the perfect spot to spend the night. Quiet, shady, beautiful trees and nicely taken care of.

You can't camp on the river but you can walk there and also along a trail that runs parallel to the river. Great spot for bird watching with owls, magpies, cedar waxwings, warblers and more.
There is decent cell service in the campground even without a booster on the Rogers network only. I needed my booster when I was inside my camper but signal was fine outside.
You can float down the Red Deer river from here about 12 km to Dinosaur Provincial Park. Water level may be lower at certain times of year - June is probably the best time.
While the distance to Dinosaur PP is only 11 km as the crow flies, driving there involves a circuitous route around the badlands - takes about 30 mins to go the 34 km.
Some road noise is heard throughout the camp - it is not a huge area though the noise is less if you go farther back. The adjacent road is paved and loud trucks do use it though it is not terribly busy.
I really enjoyed this camp. The wind blowing through the cottonwood trees made a lovely soothing sound and the bird life was fun to watch. Plus being so close to Dinosaur PP made this a great boondock location for daytripping to the park.

Nice little area near the river to camp. Not busy at all only 4 other sites used. Pit toilets were pretty stinky. We had zero cell service on Telus at the campground or in the valley. Nice little area near the river to camp. Not busy at all only 4 other sites used. Pit toilets were pretty stinky. We had zero cell service on Telus at the campground or in the valley. Cookhouse has a lot of graffiti inside. Didn't see any snakes, but we were camping late September. Some other campers were hunting in the area and decided to hang up their kill in the trees at the first site in the campground, so be weary in hunting season.
