It's not often we get to be the first to review a campsite here on Campendium, but in an effort to visit as many different National Forests as possible we just couldn't pass up a chance to see the Samuel R. McKelvie National Forest in Nebraska.

First the pros of this campground:
The senior pass price of $7.50 makes it affordable. Don't think I'd pay the full price of $15 to camp here though.
It's a quiet and uncrowded campground.
The sites have a wide variety. Some short, some long, some shaded and some full sun. Some were close together to make good "buddy sites".
Two vault toilets on property were clean and conveniently located.
Each site has a picnic table and ground grill. Free firewood was all around the campground.

Now for the cons:
As you an see from our photos the dumpster was in need of emptying, but for all I know that happened the day after we left.
The grounds were covered with sticker plants and there was a large population of wasps flying around.
The water hand pump had a nonpotable sign next to it so bring your own water to drink and cook with.
The horse corral mentioned on the USFS website is way overgrown with 3' tall weeds and doesn't appear to be used anymore.
The campground is located 15-miles from any north-south or east-west travel routes.
No cell service of any kind, but most sites have a view of the northern sky for Starlink.
