St. George Island State Park Campground

Nice bathhouse - book trade and pleasant hosts. Beautiful beach & nice trails.

The attraction of this campground is that it is an island away from others that allows for peace at the beach. The sites are spacious and the natural foliage helps them feel secluded from your neighbors. The island and its roads are showing signs of wear and tear from the recent hurricanes but they have done an excellent job with the clean up. Because this is an island and far from the main land, it is a must to stock up before we arrived. You can't see the beach from the campground but when it's quiet, you can hear the ocean. This is one of our favorite state parks in Florida and many others must agree because you have to book a site far in advance. It is totally worth the trouble if you are looking for a peaceful place at the beach away from the crowds!

My kids & I went for our first camping trip, & this campground was an amazing experience. We used a tent and were on site 12. You access the state park after driving down a 4mile bridge to the island followed by a short drive thru a tourist area. Access was easy, the gate guard to the park was friendly and very helpful. The campground itself was very clean and taken care of. The campground makes one loop, entering at site 1 and you wrap around to exit. Of all the campsites I saw, only one was a pull thru site if you are bringing a camper-I did not see the site number that, but it was half way thru the loop across from the park & hiking trail. The rest of the sites are back-in. The bathrooms were clean. It was peaceful and quite.

Every site has a hammock hookup, a firepit, and a grill you can fold over on top of the campfire, plus electric and water (tent campers do not have to pay the utility fee to use the electricity). You cannot see the beach from the sites because there are dunes, but at night when all was quiet we could hear the waves. We saw chipmunks and lots of different birds. Our site was full of cardinals hanging out. =)

The sites all seemed to have some sort of shade available. So with that, combined with a mini fan I brought with us to plug in, we were very comfortable. Beach access is available right across from the entrance to the campground itself. The views were amazing! In the middle of the campground, easily accessible from all the sites, there are 2 bathhouses and two camp hosts where you can buy ice for $3 a bag and firewood for $6 a bundle available on the campground itself.

The sites themselves are either gravel or concrete slab-most are gravel though--so if you are tent camping be sure to be prepared for that-tarp under the tent, extra padding for sleeping and walking, or you will feel the rocks under your feet. Just a suggestion.

A storm came thru our 2nd night there, and being so close to the ocean the wind does pick up pretty decent. So it might be helpful to check the radar or check with the state park employees for weather updates so you can be prepared. All the state employees we came in contact with during our activities mentioned a storm was on the way in so we were able to prepare our site accordingly before the storm hit and weren't scrambling.
The employees were awesome!

I have Metro by TMobile for cellphone coverage, and I couldn't access the internet, and getting a call in/out was hit or miss. Depending what you might need your phone for you may or may not find that as a benefit. Overall, the kids and I had a wonderful time, enjoyed the serenity and views, and definitely recommend!

This is one of our favorite Florida State Park campgrounds. The park covers the entire northern end of the island and and has 9 miles of pristine beach.

The campground is one loop with 60 sites. All are W/E only and all but 1 are back ins. Site size varies as does amount of vegetation/privacy but otherwise I dont think there is a bad site in the place. As the island is only a half mile wide you can hear the surf from every site. Its an older park so its a little tight but we had no issue with our 40 foot fifth wheel.

Utilities are good and surprisingly cell service was excellent on both Verizon and AT&T. No problem streaming on either. We got 4 OTA channels.

Beyond miles of beach and dunes there are several miles of nature trails. Speaking of nature we saw plenty including eagles, an owl, all types of herons etc.

Staff here is fantastic, everything is super clean and well maintained. Rangers patrol often and everyone is very friendly.

So fair warning, this place is REMOTE. Its a 20 minute ride into St George Island village but theres little there. Apalachicola is 35 minutes, Carrabelle is an hour and they dont have a lot either. Its 110 miles off of I-10, back roads the whole way. But if you want peace and quiet, dark night skies and relaxation this place is perfect.

A afternoon walk fat tire bike will give you easy access to the miles of beach beyond the end of the road. Easy to leave everyone behind and have your own private spot.

We loved this campground and will return.

Been coming to SGI for years, love the million mile beach. First stay at the campground, had a very level concrete pad, of course no sewage but a dump station on property. For the pros, loved the site, roomy and solitude. Across the street from the bathrooms and bathhouses which we used a lot conservative on tanks as we were here a week. View is incredible, everything is clean and well cared for. The beaches are immaculate, and empty. I knew what Tom Hanks felt like on Castaway 😂 For the cons, hot and humid for several days then the rain set in… no drainage here so water stands and so do the mosquitoes. They swarmed along with biting horse flies. Crazy how bad it was… other con. Dogs NOT allowed on the beach in the state park. You have to drive to public, last con… bathroom and bathhouses don’t have A/C . With real feel temps in triple digits, taking showers were a sauna trip. Loved it and will be back…. Just in October

We showed up here without reservations and were able to score two nights over a weekend!

Moved from one side of campground to other, but no big deal because we were camping on an island.

The only negative we had was during this time of year the small little biting bugs were vicious. I had welts and bite marks for almost a week afterwards.

Sites were level and provided privacy between campers. Very quiet and night and amazing stars, bird life to observe.

One of our favorite parts of this state park was the amazing fitness trail they developed. We loved the hiking and workout stations along the sandy path.

We love St George Island and would definitely camp here with some extra bug spray.
