A great escape to the beach in the middle of July. The campgrounds are fantastic! Large and level with the hook ups in a convenient easy to get to place. The restrooms were nice and they tried to keep them clean (I'll get back to that in a minute). A short drive to the beach which we had completely to ourselves, unless you want to co... more

First of all, big props to the Forest Seevice here....this was by far the MOST accessible state park i’ve ever been to! Ramps to everything, bathrooms set up for easy access, good beach access for wheelchairs, multiple kinds of beach weelchairs available upon request. Good stuff. I was lucky enough to drive up and get one of the two ... more

St. George Island offers the best of Florida -- practically deserted beaches with blindingly white sands, interesting upland hiking through pines and scrub, plenty of good spots for kayaking and canoeing, great birdwatching, and ready access to fresh delicious seafood. Our stay in March 2018 was perfect. Bugs were so minimal that w... more

Beautiful Little Island close to Apalachicola, we only stayed one night would of liked to have stayed a little longer. We didn't go to the beach here, no dogs, but down the road there is a beautiful beach where dogs are allowed on leash. Mosquitos are a bit much, the camp ground is on the bay side, over at the beach there where none. W... more

We've long loved SGI, but this was our first time camping at the state park. The site and hookups (water and electric) were fine, and the dump station was close enough to be convenient but not an annoyance. The one detractor for our late October stay was the mosquitoes. We had big spray and citronella candles and still could not com... more

I think most Florida State Park campground sites are narrow and small, but not these sites. After seeing the campground, Site #1 wouldn't be my first selection. There are some great sites farther down the loop area. Dogs allowed on trails which were sandy or boardwalks. Again, another Florida beach that doesn't allow dogs. There... more

St. George Island is a long, narrow barrier island on the panhandle of Florida in the "uncommon Florida" and is part of Franklin County, referred to as "forgotten coast" because it's a far cry from the highly developed towns in other parts of Florida. The state park is located at the very tip of the island. The entrance to the state ... more

We walked deep into the forest, these massive pines surrounding the footsteps we left in the sandy trail as we wondered what the map we'd picked up at the trailhead was for, certainly not the trail we were on. Playing "kick the pinecone" and collecting fallen branches still bearing their needles we swept away our tracks behind us. Some... more

If I could give this campground more than 5 stars I would. The only bad thing about our stay was that we were only there one night. The campground was quiet with adequate sized sites (30, 31,33 are the best) offering decent separation with lots of trees for shade. The facilities were clean and modern, and they even had recycling which ... more
