“Camping in the north woods”

Overall Rating

St. Croix State Park is the largest state park in Minnesota. More than 200 sites are spread over three adjacent campgrounds that number sites consecutively. We stayed in the Logging Trail Campground. Some sites have electricity. There is a dump station.

The lower numbered sites tend to be in more open areas. The higher numbered sites are usually well separated by brush. Several rest room buildings with flush toilets and showers are scattered about but are not necessarily on the same loop. Portable toilets are also available.

All sights are close to the St. Croix River, which is a National Wild River. Canoe and kayaks are popular. Rentals are available in mid summer. There is an extensive trail system.

Swimming is located in another portion of the park.

Cell service was spotty. We varied from 1 bar to no service.

“Wonderful SP deep and remote into the northern Minnesota woods. Campsites, including equestrian sites well laid out next to the historic Wild St. Croix River.”

Approx. 20 miles east of I-35 and Hinkley, MN on Rte 48 headed towards Danbury, WI. The SP is five miles south of 48 in a beautiful birch, oak and maple forest that has been harvested in places and has new growth coming up. Very picturesque!

Sevral campgrounds within the Park are on the high western bank of the River. The river is a short walk from any of the campsites. Camping services vary from primitive to electric only. There is an Interpretive Center, a equestrian C/G off by itself with electric, water , corrals and long riverside trails for riding. The Park has a dump station.

I'm sure this is a busy place during the summer, but great during the week or when school is back in session. All the sites are treed and shaded, well spaced, gravel with plenty of length for rigs up to 40'
