“Free Electric ”

It’s free so I don’t think I can complain. The main issue for us was the traffic noise. It is relentless throughout the day/night. Plus during evening hours, there’s trains adding to the hubbub. But the view of the river is lovely and we walked across the road to Kroger for groceries.

This is the second time we have found this situation in our last two stays. It’s unfortunate that some people take advantage of St Albans generosity.
This is a great space to overnight or take a two night rest. All three sites are level. The campground allows you to stay two nights in a 15 day window. The traffic is heavy during commuting hours but is quiet afterwards. You may hear some barges passing by on the river or trains on the nearby tracks otherwise fairly quiet.
In walking distance you will find restaurants, Krogers and other conveniences. There is a walking trail along the river as well as a playground and boat launch. We have stayed here several times and plan to do so as long the park is open.
Pet Friendly, 3 bars 4G T-Mobile and 2 bars 4G US Cellular.

We were in a 22 ft Travel trailer and had room for truck to fit beside or in ground. A lg fifth wheel was next to us and fit. Grass between and lg trees. 30A and 120 v power at each site. Great cell service and shopping, laundromat and restaurant options all around within a block to 5 miles. Theres a dump station and water In the parking lot end you can access on the way out. Best part is it’s a free camp for a 2 day limit. There is a donation tube in the playground area so please help keep it open.

We have stayed in St Albans city park several times. While it is on a heavily traveled road, it quiets down around midnight. We have always found the park clean and in good working order. This is a great overnight stop. There are a few restaurants within walking distance as well as a Kroger.
There is a dump station as well as fresh water spigot.

Free camping right in St. Albans. 3 spots. First come, first served. 20 and 30 amp electrics. No water. Does have a dump station. Max 2 nights for RV’s. No tents.
Level sites overlooking the Kanawah River. Don’t forget to walk to the far end of the park and visit the ‘Rosie the Riveter’ area.

Arrived around noon on A Friday, December 2nd on a mild sunny 50° day. We were the only patrons staying the night. 3 pull through sites with 30 & 20 amp power working on the two furthest from the entrance.
We set up quickly as the sites are fairly level.
The road in is odd, a one lane loop that you drive halfway around to pull throughs that are angled to put you back on the approach against the flow of traffic. Not an issue if traffic is light as it was for us. The road is paved but rutted with pot holes. Very tight turns. I wasn’t able to keep the wheels of my 35’ 5th wheel on the pavement. The sites are also paved and wide enough to accommodate my rig and dually 1 ton side by side. They are not, however, long enough to fit the length of both one in front of the other. In fact anything much longer than our rig would probably stick out into the perimeter loop.
We will certainly take advantage of the dump station before we leave.
On the down side, lots of traffic noise from the highway 20’ from the park, and infrequent train noise right across the river.
4 solid bars with Verizon with around 16 Mbps down and 12 up!
There’s a short sidewalk trail closer to the river, a nice looking playground that 2 families visited while we were there. A park dedicated to Rosie the Riveters, a monument to Chuck Yeager, a nice floating dock and a (locked for our visit) restroom.
All in all a great opportunity at a price that can’t be beat!

Nothing pretty about the sites but grateful to have for us travelers. If all sites are full and you are coming around the loop, watch for a low hanging branch past site three. It seems to hang right in the road if your a larger rig.
