Meandering Life would stay here again

“Good, remote”ish” campground”

Reviewed Oct 04, 2018

Overall Rating

We only stayed one night in October 2018 as a quick stopover on our trek south. The campground was several miles away from I-55 so close enough for easy access, but not so close to have noise. In fact, the campground was very quiet. We choose a large pull-through spot which was perfect because we did not have to unhook the truck. It was level too. The spots are not too close together which was nice. We were there only one night so didn’t do much, but they do have a dog run, laundry, and a pool (closed in Oct). We were going to laundry, but the price seemed high at $2 to wash and $2 to dry. You can get quarters from the office. Our spot was $37 before the 10% discount because we are KOA members. Full hook-up so didn’t think the price was too bad. Another campground near here is $50 a night so this one was much cheaper. Overall the campground was nice. We would stay here again if we are ever back in the area.

“It was an okay stay. Not enough shade.”

Reviewed Feb 16, 2018

Overall Rating

We camped over a 3-day weekend. This is basically a large parking lot on grass for RVs. There is one average tree per campsite and not enough shade. Tent campers are mixed in with RVs instead of in their own area. There is a pool, but it was packed with unsupervised kids the entire time. There is a nice camp store and rec area. It's on the edge of Springfield, IL so if you're doing the Lincoln sites (Abraham Lincoln's home, train station where he departed for Washington D.C., Lincoln's tomb, etc.) or the State Fair this would be an okay place to stay since you would likely not be back during the hot and sunny part of a summer day. It seems secluded as it is surrounded by trees even though you're close to the city. It is very quiet at night. Most of the RV sites are pull through.
