Question about Sportsman's Beach

ColtarKDM asked on 5/20/2020

Can you fish in this lake?

Answer question

Answered on 5/21/2020:

Based upon what I read, this used to be a good lake for fishing for Lahontan Cutthroat trout, but due to the high levels of alkalinity and salt over the years and even tui chub, the primary forage of Lahontan Trout, are unable to survive. So sadly no fishing, but kayaking and small watercraft are often seen on the lake especially over a holiday. Be aware that the Boat ramp here is very low in the water.

We were there for 4 days and never saw anyone fishing. From what we've read, the fish population(as small as it already is) is dwindling rapidly due to the increasing levels of salt and other solids.

The mineral / salt content is so high in this lake that there is basically no life habitat for regular fishes here. You can find more about it by google lake walker fishing
