Overall Rating

There are a handfull of sites overlooking the Spanish Valley and Behind the Rocks that are a boondocker's dream. If you can make it here you will be rewarded with solitude, silence and breath-taking 360 degree views of not only the valley but of the La Sal Mountains behind.

Spanish Valley view is accessible by a road maintained for power lines. It overall is well graded and does not need any special clearance. There is a caveat to this. Due to the way rain falls in the desert, there are time when the road may not be passable by some vehicles. It is regraded by the power company, but in-between these times the road may be less than idea. So scout it first.

The road itself has a steep grade that has a base of dirt and loose rock. Any rig that travels this section should have 4X4 and be within the capability of the tow vehicle. As of this writing there are two rocky sections that are needing to be fixed or my 5th wheel would be at the sites right now.

Prior to the GPS point there is a fork in the road where the power lines split. A large rig could turn around at this fork, or turn to the left and camp in the very large turnaround overlook. This spot has the best view of Spanish Valley and Behind the Rocks and is very level. It is under the powerlines.

Continue past this fork and to the left there is a small turn out before the trees. This could hold a smaller trailer and is fairly level. As you reach the trees there are a few spots along the narrow road. The whole treed area is very flat and has amazing views of the mountains.

Not only does this site have great views, but also great cell coverage. The area received 2 bars of Verizon 4G with 64.3 megabit download and 5.45 megabit upload. It also had 5 bars of AT&T 4G with 71 megabit download and 1.5 megabit upload.
