Camping was not allowed in the grassy areas with shade because of possible rain, so we went for space 5, close to the dumpsters, because: 1. 2. 5 was close to the only restrooms we could find, at the poolhouse for the closed pool; and
3. There was a tree at the west end of the parking lot that gave us some late shade.
Another plus was that the parking lots are far away from the playgrounds so it is relatively quiet.
On the down side, our camping chairs were stolen during the night. DON'T LEAVE STUFF OUTSIDE.

Plenty of playground equipment. We would stay overnight here again. Cannot beat the cost. I

The park is right in the center of a small town. Quick access to things like Walmart, the interstate, and restaurants.
City police patrol the area periodically and the grounds were kept very clean and well maintained.
Be sure to stay on the concrete parking lots unless you have a smaller rig. We tried to take our 39' fifth wheel onto the grassy area (we didn't see the parking lot area) and ended up getting stuck. Despite having a dually with 4 wheel drive, we were bogged up because it had just rained. Fortunately the grounds crew saw us and brought the tractor out. We were unstuck in no time and they were super friendly!
The grounds crew have been maintaining the park for years (a couple even for decades) and it shows that they take great pride in their park.
You are in the middle of a town so there will occasionally be a loud motorcycle, ambulance siren, car stereo, etc. However this is off in the distance and doesn't cause any noise inside the rig. Worth mentioning so that you don't have the impression that this is an isolated park in the countryside. The noise is minimal.
Great cell phone reception, unboosted.
For $11 a night you can't beat the location and amenities. Just find a spot and get set up, someone will swing by to collect the fee and answer any questions you have.

Let me confess a partiality towards government-run campgrounds, be they state, local or even national, despite the fact that in the latter category many of them seem as though they haven’t been updated since the CCC built them in the ‘30s. The fact that they’re not profit-driven often makes them a better value. This is just such a park.
It’s a municipal park in a small community outside Lafayette. Although some of the sites are simply grass, several of them are concrete slabs. Ours required no leveling. Water and 30 amp electric is included. There is a dump station. I had a problem with electric and it ended up being with my equipment, but there was a quick and helpful response by Park personnel.
This was a very active summer weekday night at the park, and girls were playing softball right next to the campground. Families were out supporting them and there was a police presence. In all, a great family summer night in small-town America.
As noted below, the park gates are closed at 11 o’clock. Park rangers patrol until that time. A police officer told me the campground area was safe, although there is no camp host. There are several camp sites around the park, so I can’t imagine this place being filled if and when you come here. You simply pick a site and the Ranger realizes you have come and collects the $11.00 in cash. It’s very close to Highway 49, which made it a wonderful stop for a night on our way to New Orleans

We stayed 3 nights. It's so quiet here. There are Park Rangers here 6 am-11 pm. The gates are locked at all 3 entrances at night. It seems this park is used a lot by both young & old. Kids practicing tennis, kids practicing for a dance recital, tons of people walking & riding bikes.
We drove around town yesterday. It's kept clean. There's an area where quite a few businesses have closed.
We felt very safe here day & night. Will definitely stay again when in the area.

Pulling in might be tight in a longer unit, sharp turn... better to come in from the north than the south like the gps took us.

“No One There”
noted 2/20/2023
No one answered the phone. The email was returned. When we got to the park, there was only one trailer there and it looked like nobody was in it. We couldn’t figure out where to park and it looked really sketchy to us so we left. We went to a lovely park in Lafayette.
