Overview of South Block Designated Dispersed Campsite 71

Camping is only allowed at designated campsites in Tuscarora State Forest. Reservations and permits are required and can be made online or over the phone. Campfires are prohibited from March 1 - May 25 without authorization from the state forest.

Black bears frequent the area. When not in immediate use, all food, beverages, coolers, cooking utensils, pet food, or other attractants must be kept in a closed, hard-sided vehicle or secured in a bear-proof storage container.

“Decent Site In South Block Of Tuscarora State Forest”

Overall Rating

We passed by this site after we stayed at site 82. (See review). 71 looked nice but didn’t stop. It’s lower in elevation than 82 and might be a better choice. Not sure of the details. It’s a circular pulll through site. Should work for small trailer or van. It’s about 35 minutes from the Pa turnpike. Tuscarora state forest feels much more remote than Michaux State Forest south of Harrisburg. Low population pressure on weekdays here. Roads are well maintained gravel with washboards. Do not attempt in winter as there a steep drop offs without guardrails. No cell service
