Question about South Beach Dispersed Camping

ColoradoMom asked on 4/5/2021

I'm nervous my car will get stuck in the sand. Is there a lot to park in while we tent on the beach? If yes, is there a fee to park?

There is a small parking lot and pit toilet just before the beach. If you stay closer to the wet sand it is very firm and even big oil tankers drive on it. There is the cost of getting into the park. If you have a national park pass, however, that covers it.

You could park and camp close to the entrance to South Beach. The sand is very firm and you could still probably park on the asphalt. Free parking and camping.

Conditions vary. There was a lot of loose sand this year (3/16/2022) and we got stuck in our Class C. North Beach was better and we had no trouble there. Previous trips there, we had no problem driving. Park and walk the area first.
