After a day of hiking at the Hoh Rain forest we weren't sure where we were going to stay. We originally pulled into a campground before this one that was completely booked so we continued south keeping a look out for other campgrounds. We saw the sign for South Beach and took a chance. They have a unique reservation system where can lo... more

“Awesume Ocean Side Camping....Great for Whale Watching”

Reviewed Sep 24, 2017

Overall Rating

The Ocean sites are the 5 Star Sites, but there are many others with ocean views that are beautiful. All sites are first come, first serve sites, so the weekends are really busy and weekdays are lighter traffic.

For Ocean view and beach walks & campfires at night, I highly recommend this campground. 5 Star *****.

We had made a reservation at Kalaloch, but the ocean front site we had reserved was too small for our rig (even if it stated on recreation.com that it was good up to 36 feet long rig - our bus is 35). AND the cell reception was not good enough there for work (3G only even with the booster), so the Ranger sent us here to South Beach Cam... more

Gambling on a chance for a spot -we were fortunate to snag a front row ocean front spot at this Campground. Spot 36 had the largest area for both our TV and all 28ft of our loved Airstream with room to spare. Watched whales, bald eagles and seagulls pass by all day. Sites ONLY have toilets and fire pits. “Ocean View Parking Lot”

Reviewed Jul 27, 2017

Overall Rating

This spot is little more than a parking lot but is right on the beach in Olympic National Park. We loved the beach here but the campground was very crowded and a bit noisy at times. The spots aren't marked so it's a bit tricky to determine where your spot ends and begins. Hopefully you have friendly neighbors like we did.

South Beach has been on our "must return" list since we were here two years ago. This time we got the "host" site (#57) which is slightly separated from the rest of the sites. This Olympic National Park campground ain't perfect but everything is redeemed by the gorgeous view of the Pacific! Holy crap it's great! No water, no hookups, but beach access right from our site and killer sunsets every night. After weeks of cool, shady, forested sites it was really nice to have wide open sun. This gorgeous no-hookups camprgound is first come, first served. It's wide open on a bluff, so great for solar, and also easy to find a spot for a larger rig.
