Soft Maple Reservoir Campground

First hats off to Charlie - our caretaker who excels in taking care of this awesome campground. It’s clean it’s beautiful and the paddling is exceptional.
We camped in the beach. Saw shooting stars and 24 members of our Go With the Flow kayaking group from Central NY joined us on Tuesday 8/10. Charlie helped all of us.

This campground is owned by Brookfield Power who owns the dams on the Beaver River system. Very small campground with only 12 sites, all would fit RV's up to 30 feet. No reservations accepted, first come first served. I have heard good thing about this small park so I set out to see for myself. First challenge was finding it. Once in Croghan, in the center of the hamlet there is Kirschnerville Rd. Turn on to that road and follow straight onto (dirt) Soft Maple Rd. Here's where it gets tricky, there is a left turn that is still Soft Maple Road but there is no sign. It appears to be a driveway to one on the dam buildings but it goes on by. You will come to a one lane bridge....go across but turn right even though the campground driveway is to the left. The right turn into the campground is TOO sharp to make it in with an RV or trailer. By going right it takes you to the top of the hill where there is a circle to turn around so you can drive straight into the campground. The campground office and facilities are straight ahead. Each site a pretty level, has fire ring and picnic table. The are no electric hook ups but there is a water spigot to fill your tank. The caretaker is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. There is a beach, play area, showers, bathrooms, boat launch. There are several camps along the reservoir so there will be activity on weekends. The place is full around holidays and most weekends. Makes a great base camp spot to explore the Beaver River system that has several more reservoirs as well as trails.
