Cell is good , very close to Tucson. There are some nice campers here also a bunch of old abandoned tents and trash too . It is a matter of time and if people
Don’t start taking care of it it WILL get shut down .
Our spot isn’t too bad Consumer cellular (att) 2 bars works great .

Please take all trash with you and don't overstay! Try to take some extra trash when you leave so these places stop being shut down.

No sign of trash or squatters. Close to the city and a great place to spend a couple of nights. It’s not deep into the wilds, so don’t expect the serenity and views you can get at more remote locations. But it was precisely what we wanted as a base for doing a little sightseeing in the city.

Unfortunately this section of land is so sad. Mounds of trash, very scary looking units, even old couches. We didn't even consider it. Very sad.

“Homelessness, Trash”

So sad to see that many people are living full-time in cars, vans, and very old and decrepit campers. Much homelessness. And many are abusing the privilege of BLM land by leaning their trash and tires all over. There are a few decent people here but they don’t stay long, usually just overnight, as did we.

This place is terrible. It looks like there are people living out there, not camping. The trash gets piled up and it seems like there are some pretty sketchy things going on. I have seen BLM law enforcement and others out there cleaning up the area only for it to return to being full of trash in a day or two. I also noticed that people have made their own roads to the main road that could make it very dangerous if people pull out onto that busy road. I would find another place to camp. This place doesn't even deserve one star.

Driving in we noticed many piles of trash littered around. We were planning on using this as a base to visit Saguaro National Park but after seeing someone handing out a couple needles and finding a few littered around, we decided to move. There is no way I would ever leave my rig here unattended. We have stayed at BLM a few times and have had great experiences but this was not one of them. There were people here who have had stuff stolen from under them and after talking to a few people, we just couldn’t stay any longer.
This dispersed camping is very close to Tucson and also has no limit on the number of days you can stay so I’m guessing this invites crowds that are not very kid friendly. It is also very loud and close to the road. There are a lot of trucks engine breaking and a ton of road noise. I would not recommend for families or for pets due to the drug needles laying around.

Rigs over 30 ft or towing do not turn left off W Old Ajo Hwy. Approach from S San Joaquin rd and turn slight right on to gravel road then take 3rd dirt path toward Snyder Hill. I know of 4 rigs with damage from left turn there some over $10k . walk the area before you drive off the main dirt road to pick your spot. Some areas have nails from people burning pallets. Other areas have broken glass (probably) old target shooting. If it rains leave quickly or stay until it dries up. Mud sticks to shoes and packs on making walking difficult. Lot of ruts from vehicles driving in the mud makes it rough getting in. Road noise is moderate. Very windy in march only had campfires 2/5 nights.
Great for large group we had 30 rigs for 6 nights.
Convenient to the major Tucson attractions if you have a car available. Cell service for AT&T and Visible on Verizon were good enough for talk text and zoom calls.

Don’t have a lot of experience with camping on BLM land. This site was very crowded with many rigs that looked permanent. Only stayed one night. Seemed safe and was quiet at night. Lots of broken glass everywhere.
Much easier access and “designated” roads from San Joaquin road than Camino Verde.

The Worst BLM Stay Ever!! Garbage galore, sketchy inhabitants and nothing Interesting to look at. Felt very unsafe!! Road noise from 6:00AM till 11:00 PM. No firewood to be found but lots of junk lying about. No nearby services that you can find easily. I would only use this BLM Under emergency conditions!!

The review left on 9/18/23 stating that this site is closed is incorrect. This BLM Land dispersed campsite area is NOT closed. The problem was that in the last few years campers were starting to spill over onto the adjacent State Trust Land and parts of the BLM land that were not designated for camping. So all of the State land and non-camping BLM portions have now been fenced off and gated, with signage stating that entry is not allowed. But both halves of the actual dispersed campsite are still completely open, one section on the east side of Snyder Hill, and one section on the west side of the hill. As well, please note that the BLM has now fenced off all sides of the two main dispersed campsite areas except for the official entrances, both of which are located on Old Ajo Hwy, a short two-lane road on the north side of Snyder Hill, best accessed off of San Joaquin Rd. (any previous entrances off of the main Ajo Hwy/86 on the south side were never the actual entrances anyway - these were where people were incorrectly going onto the State Trust Land) The official Old Ajo Hwy entrances are easy to find, because both are signed with good-sized, noticeable “camping” bulletin board signs - so you will know them when you see them. It appears that they have also fenced off the S dirt two-track that joined the two site halves, as well as along most of the base of the hill there, because people were driving vehicles up the hill, which is not allowed (and certainly not safe anyway). [note - we are local and have examined all of the new fences/signage to verify. Also please note - our main star rating does not reflect any opinion we may have of this campsite, since we’ve never personally used it, but Campendium required a rating before submitting].
“Find another location”
noted 9/18/2023
It looks like the landowner finally got tired of all the trash and issues at this site. I drove by today and there is now fencing. If you are used to camping there, you will want to find somewhere else to do it. Maybe people will stop leaving trash everywhere and be responsible at these types of sites so everyone can continue to use them.
