“Seldom used camp, little run down compared to others in the area”

I did not stay here, just stopped in to check things out. Out of 13 sites only 1 was occupied (other camps in the area were all at least 1/4 full all weekend). The general feeling in camp was that it was a little run-down but I think that's more from lack of use than lack of maintenance. Lots of weeds and thick shrubs blocking all but the main campsite space and road. A bulletin board at the entrance had a notice that a bear had been frequenting the area in recent weeks. Having spent a lot of time outdoors and all sorts of wildlife encounters I don't usually get too creeped out but this area had me on high alert. Not enough open space for me, personally. The FS staff does a good job of keeping camp clean and the bathrooms were clean and well-stocked. Tables and fire rings in each site were in good repair. There was a hand pump for water in the west loop but a sign on the pump said: "non-potable, do not drink". Camp layout was a little weird too - there is a smaller west loop with sites 1-4 and a tight radius turn around (big rigs beware) that butts up just below the main West Fork Rd. And there's a larger, slightly more open east loop with sites 1-9. The west loop is all back in and there is two pull-through sites on the east loop. There is also a large group area fire ring adjacent to site 8 but it seems out of place with such a small camp.
Do not miss the turn into camp once you leave West Fork Rd - the road beyond camp is narrow with no area to turn around.
Camp is/was free but the FS just installed a new payment/fee station so fees are likely to be charged in 2022.
