Skimikin Lake Recreation Site

This is one of, if not the best campground we have stayed in during our 3 month holiday. The location is stunning, the spots are all well spaced and you can choose to be tucked away in the trees or on one of the many spots just meters from the lake. It’s quite and peaceful with amazing views and lots of wild life. But the best part is the camp host who is amazing! She looks after everyone and makes sure the place is tidy and being respected. We stayed on a Monday so was probably much quieter than a weekend but definitely worth stopping in for a couple of days if not longer.

We were here during a heat wave, low 90s during the day. That made the waterfront sites pretty unbearable as they are mostly in full sun. We snagged our site, #39, which was a huge site in the trees. When the host came by to collect the fees, we found out why it was so large. It and #40 are considered group sites. The host told us that if the campground filled up, she might have to put someone in next to us to share the site. Fortunately, even though it was a long British Columbia weekend, the campground didn't fill up.

Pretty good hiking from the campground and the lake is great for kayaking. Beware, the mosquitos were fierce during our stay. But hearing the loons day and night was magical!

This oasis off the beaten bath is the perfect place to dry-camp! Passing through from Harrison Hot Springs to Lake Louise, we wanted to divide the travel in half so we tested our luck with Skimikin Lake. We were definitely NOT disappointed.

Scored a perfect lakeside spot (#29) that was quiet and far from our next neighbor. Great views of the surrounding hills, trees, and peaceful lake Skimikin. I can see how this place might get a little noisy on a peak season weekend, but for our midweek stay the only noises we heard were the birds chirping and fish jumping. This place also has neat little horse corrals for equestrian camping. Fishing appeared to be allowed on the lake. And there was even a fire pit at our site. Only reason we give it 4/5 for access is because the road through the campsite is dirt/mud and not paved. Not a problem for our Sprinter van.

Friendly camp host (Lysa) came by to collect our $12 camp fee and make sure we were settled in OK. There’s a winery down the road a bit but we didn’t get a chance to check it out. Maybe next time! We would absolutely return here.
