“Warm Lake Dry Camping”

Overall Rating

Perhaps one of the nicest campgrounds for dry camping that I've seen. Shoreline is the nicest and more developed of three campgrounds in close proximity. Warm Lake Campground is on the east side of the lake outlet, but can only take smaller rigs. And, the Picnic Point campground a 1/4 of a mile from Shoreline is a walk-in tent campground only. We happened to find one of the nicer sites in Shoreline on a first come, first serve basis in mid-week early June. Although, most of the sites are very nice and about half are reservable.

There is a road between the campground and the Warm Lake shore, so the access to the lake requires you to gingerly walk around other camp site's to the boat launch, or drive out of the campground a couple of hundred yards to launch a boat, or fish from floating piers. Only a few sites will have any view of the lake. All of the campground is paved, except for the sand tent pads and wooded common areas. Lots of lodgepole pine with a few large ponderosa pines. The area around the lake was burned several years ago, but the replanting efforts were successful and many small pines are growing well.

There is running potable water spigots located at the vault toilets, so you can stop and fill up your fresh water tank before moving to your site. A public dump station is located in Cascade at the Harpo's Exxon on Hwy 55, just south of the turnoff for the lake, about 26 miles away. They have a $3.00 honor system box.

The campground is serviced by the camp hosts in the first spot as you enter the campground. The sites include a nice picnic table, tent pad, charcoal grill stand, and fire ring. Most of the sites are well spaced between each other. Most of the RVs in the campground while we were there did not run a generator, but it only takes one neighbor with a noisy generator to ruin the quiet. We found some bugs in the evening, but not many in the morning. The lake can be circumnavigated by canoe in about 1.5 hours. The lake is not deep for most of it, but very clear. Power boats are allowed. There are 2 lodges near the campground where sundries and ice can be purchased.

We had no cell service, and was unable to pick-up any AM/FM or TV signal.

“Scenic NF Campground”

Beautiful forest service campground situated across from a lake. Campground is developed dry camping, meaning that the interior roads and spurs are all paved. There are at three vault toilets situated throughout along with bear proof trash receptacles. This is bear country and bears do visit, but none on our trip. The campground is planned with ample space between sites. there are about 13 first come first served sites that include doubles. This is a very popular campground in good weather, but we managed to get in for the Memorial Day weekend by getting there early the Wednesday before. Weather was rain and snow during that time so the forecast may have kept people away. Sites are varying lengths with some that will easily fit big rigs. Half price with the Golden Age Access including the double sites.
