We live in Sonoma County and the GPS had us taking Iowa Hill road out of Colfax, for anyone towing any type of trailer this is definitely not a good idea, Forest Hill road out of Auburn much better path. We pushed the envelope by bringing our 36ft 5th wheel and parking at site 25 which has a 100ft pull thru driveway, little tight however just barely enough room. Absolutely beautiful, couldn't have asked for anything better. No cell service, vault toilets and water spigots throughout campgrounds. If you're wanting to bring a boat FYI the lake is really low due to the current drought. If you're needing firewood the neighboring campsite host at Giant Gap Campgrounds has plenty at $7 a pop. We will definitely will be returning for another visit sometime real soon.

We made the mistake of letting Google Maps decide our route, which took us on a windy backwoods mainly single lane barely paved road that took almost an hour to travel 14 miles. If coming from 80, take the Foresthill Road route. Once there, the sites were a little closer than I would like, and there were some loud family groups, but the stunning scenery and the trail around the reservoir - which you can walk with a dog on lead - more than made up for it. In addition to no hook ups, no cell service at all, so come prepared. Fortunately for us, good reception on the area's classical music NPR station. Nightly Rate reflects Senior Pass discount.

Camp hosts were great, campsites were close together but lots off trees, the reservoir was lovely (we were there in a heat wave).

I really enjoyed the campground, about 1 hr away from I80. Plenty of room between sites, water and pit toilets located throughout campground. Lake apparently popular with fishing and paddle boats. Easy hiking trail around Sugar Pine Reservoir, 5 miles around, but two sections on either side of the dam are challenging. Stay on paved trail for great views, lake access and shaded benches. quiet camping.
There are one or two places around the lake where a stray verizon signal penetrated the forest and updated texts and email.
