We had mixed feelings here
Pros: beautiful views of the lake
Lots of wildlife
The nature trail is nice
It’s free!
We felt safe
Cons: This would be a wonderful spot but there was quite a lot of litter
There were also animal carcasses dumped in the lake
It’s definitely geared towards a hunting and fishing (and obviously shooting) so I’d definitely recommend it for those activities!

We really liked staying here. Drive in is gravel so you have to go really slow. Once you pull in you’ll see a post where you can fill permits for each of your party which we did. It was really nice, right on the water where you can bonfire and fish. Yes you can also go shooting which we also did and that’s great! They usually stopped shooting around 6 pm. But early morning someone was was shooting around 7 am which did wake Us up, but didn’t bother us really you get used to it. We had 3 small children with us and it was fine. Bring bug spray!! A fogger as well. Then we didn’t get bitten alive! There are alligators in the water!!! We saw them daily so be careful. My husband was fishing and did catch fish, so Great spot. Theres also hunting. Lots and lots of trash! We picked up a Big bag of trash. Clean up after yourself!!! Security did come once a night to check on 4 bar t Mobile. It was safe.

This place was really nice. No water or electricity but there is a toilet in the front of the camping area.

The road was freshly maintained at the time of our visit, for both the northern and southern approaches, and the camping area is spacious with some nice spots near a small body of water. There are fire ants in the field so pay attention where you step. The shooting range is immediately adjacent to the camping area so if folks are shooting you will definitely hear it. 3pm on a Tuesday and there were shooters. Good solar exposure.
Didn't actually camp here; stopped for a late lunch but decided to make more miles that day. Would have stayed otherwise though.

Camp sites along water are nice some across from the water. Grass areas with tables. Fires are allowed, generators, etc. Remember to fill out a permit for all in your party when you enter and drop the top part in the box. Keep the bottom with you and drop it off in the box when you leave. 16 days max for $0 best price and stars to boot. There are a few sites with water near them (non potable). Access to the area is via a gravel road. About 2 miles of st 975. Road is kind of wash board in areas.

This is my kind of place! Free camping, waterfront, with a shooting range within walking distance. Can be noisy of course. Verizon signal was extremely weak on our cell phones. 1X and a tiny bit of 3G is all we got. But, add a booster to the mix and a good signal should be possible.
