This is a perfectly fine state park especially for big rigs. Lots of boaters and anglers due to the boat ramp. We rented a canoe (and oars and life jackets) and ventured with kids on the reservoir. Nothing too exciting but the surrounding South Dakota hills are lovely. Nice, modern playground. We went to the wrong end of reservoir/park... more
This is a perfectly fine state park especially for big rigs. Lots of boaters and anglers due to the boat ramp. We rented a canoe (and oars and life jackets) and ventured with kids on the reservoir. Nothing too exciting but the surrounding South Dakota hills are lovely. Nice, modern playground. We went to the wrong end of reservoir/park at first and it’s a full 35 minutes away so double check destination! And almost 5 miles of non-paved roads to the Sheps Canyon Rec campground.
Point to note: a neighboring private campground had very late revelers. It wasn’t too big of an issue in the class A, but other campers would have been peeved!

Stayed her three nights. Had electric only. It was a very spacious site and secluded. Everyone was friendly. Bathroom and showers were clean and well kept. Would definitely stay here again. Easy access to Mt. Rushmore and the Badlands. Not much shade on our site.

We needed a day before we could get into Custer State park and there are 2 spots in Custer that are full hook up!!!! I think they are 22 and 21 or maybe 20. The spots were well maintained and clean facilities and good WiFi. There is also EXCELLENT Dispersed camping with really great spots by the water if you can do without electric.... more

The spots were well maintained and clean facilities and good WiFi. There is also EXCELLENT Dispersed camping with really great spots by the water if you can do without electric. Enjoyed the Mammoth Museum close by. You can also rent a very nice cabin nearby with spots for your horse. I was very impressed with the South Dakota reservation system. They were very helpful!!!

This is a small facility right on the Angostura Reservoir. It's part of a much larger recreation area which includes dispersed camping (which has separate reviews on Campendium) several boat ramps, a horse camp and hunting lands. This is a small facility right on the Angostura Reservoir. It's part of a much larger recreation area which includes dispersed camping (which has separate reviews on Campendium) several boat ramps, a horse camp and hunting lands.
This campground has a boat ramp as well with kayaks and canoes for rent. It was beautifully maintained and the camp host was very friendly and professional. It was full over the weekend, but mostly empty during the week. The site was level and easy to get into.
We biked and ran the gravel roads, watched deer in the prairie, let the dogs play in open fields and canoed around the coves and canyons of the lake. Hot springs was just a few miles north.
We enjoyed our short stay here!
