Overall Rating

We should have known. The photos on the site look amazing. But on Labor Day weekend they were the only one in the area who had availability and a decent price for a 9 day stay. Red flag #1.

We called multiple times and never got anyone at the office. Red flag #2. (We did get one email)

Goin into the campground was a one way up and down small steep hills with rain channels that threw the rig back and forth. Pulling a 37’ 5er, I was glad we had 4x4 when we decided to leave and that nobody was coming down the hill around the corner. Easily could have been a problem.

Nobody at the office when we checked in at 4p. Red flag #3. No map to the site in the docs left for us.

Drove to the site (after looking up the PDF map from the website on 1 bar of Verizon cell service). Driving in you could tell it was mostly seasonal or permanent residences. No water views, even though our site description said it was. Peoples junk was everywhere. Grounds unkept. Felt unsafe for our fam of 5. Red flag #4.

Tried to hook up 30a electric but the post had no fuse and exposed wires. Plug wouldn’t stay in the post even. Even through my plug showed it wired correctly I didn’t trust it. Red flag #5.

We left. Went up the street to basically boondock at Fair Haven Beach State Park where there were actually humans to talk to (and nice ones at that). They let us find a site even though we were technically over their size limit by 2 feet.

In short, don’t stay at Shady Shores. The pictures are absolutely nothing like the real thing. Wish I would have taken some to show but we left in such a hurry we didn’t bother. Go to the state park nearby if you need cheap. Otherwise pay for a better campground in the area.
