We were going to stay at the Park Services’ Army Camp Campground but it doesn’t have electric and it was cold. So we decided to stay at Shady Rest RV Park. We were going to stay at the Park Services’ Army Camp Campground but it doesn’t have electric and it was cold. So we decided to stay at Shady Rest RV Park. The reviews were good and the website was too.
It is conveniently located off I-64 down a scenic lane. The park is picturesque. Electric worked fine and we had heat.
The uni-sex bathroom/shower was disgusting. I do not know the last time it was cleaned but the cobwebs and dead insect in a spider web suggest not recently. It’s pretty obvious that if the West Virginia and/or County Health Departments inspect RV Parks, this one hasn’t been inspected recently as well.
If a bathroom is not needed as you’re traveling self contained, have at it.
If you need a bathroom and/or shower, I’d recommending skipping this one until it’s verified that a major renovation has been completed.
I wish we had skipped this RV Park.

Overall Rating
We arrived during a downpour without reservations. Extremely friendly greeting, no nonsense delay in giving us a site. All hookups worked and were easy to connect. With all the rain, it was surprising how level the sites were maintained. Beautiful, narrow, 1 lane country road access.

Beautiful spot off hwy 64 near New River Gorge National Park. Very friendly ownership (Father and son) beautiful location on top of ridge overlooking Blue Ridge Mountains. Little bitty road gettin into it, but our 40’ Tiffin and Jeep toad did just fine.
Although freeway (I-64) is sort of nearby the RV park, it is well above it and you can’t hear a thing. Quite, peaceful, and beautiful place to recharge for a few days.
